Engine and Transmission

所有T8或混合变异沃尔沃XC90的capable of producing up to 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. This comes from a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder that is both turbocharged and supercharged and an electric motor that powers the rear wheels. An eight-speed automatic gearbox directs overall power to each corner of the XC90, giving it impressive all-weather ability and traction. This kind of power figure makes it something of a performance SUV, with the sprint from 0-60 mph dispatched in 5.3 seconds. That impressive grunt keeps you going to an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph. With just the electric motor in play, you can still exceed 70 mph on the freeway. This is a well-refined power plant, offering good initial response, strong acceleration, and delightfully smooth gear shifts.

Handling and Driving Impressions

The XC90 is an excellent cruiser, with a firm but supple ride that absorbs bumps with ease, while still retaining the ability to take corners with minimal body roll. It stays stable yet provides comfort, and these qualities are further enhanced with the available air suspension setup. On the top-spec Excellence model, you even get low-noise tires and additional noise insulation, ensuring that nothing gets in the way of your drive being as relaxing as possible. The steering is accurate and the wheel well weighted, but as is common with most electric setups, there isn't much in the way of communication and feel. When it comes to slowing down, the regenerative braking system is not too intrusive and it's relatively easy to come to a smooth stop.

XC90 Hybrid Gas Mileage

Thanks to a 10.4 kWh battery pack, the XC90 T8 can run for 17 miles on electric power alone. On gas alone, the XC90 achieves an official EPA figure of 27 mpg on the combined cycle, with the 18.5-gallon gas tank thus returning an estimated range of 500 miles. With both the electric and gas motors at work, the vehicle achieves a score of 55 MPGe from the EPA. Full charge can be achieved in as little as three hours with a 22 kW fast charger.

If you want ultimate rear-seat comfort, the Excellence model comes as standard with four seats for excellent comfort, or you can spec a three-seat configuration for the ultimate in lounging style and luxury.

Should anything go wrong during the ownership period, the XC90 is covered by a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty, with battery and hybrid powertrain components covered for double that period. Three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance have been included too.

Verdict:Is 2019 Volvo XC90 Hybrid a good SUV?

The XC90 offers something for pretty much every taste, with the base model providing plenty of space and practicality, as well as numerous features. The R-Design gives a sportier look and feel, and the top trims add further luxury with exquisite Nappa leather upholstery and even features like ventilated and massaging seats, a bottle cooler with its own crystal champagne glasses, and a rear-seat entertainment system. Fuel economy is excellent, available cargo space is at the top of the class by a considerable margin, and the infotainment system is brilliant. Furthermore, a long list of standard safety features is included and every model comes with heated seats, quad-zone automatic climate control, and LED headlights. While pricing on the XC90 is certainly on the premium side, the package that you get is well worth the money.

What's the Price of the 2019 Volvo XC90 Hybrid?

The Volvo XC90 starts at a base price of $67,000 for the Momentum model, before a $995 destination charge and any additional fees or rebates. The R-Design starts at $71,950, while the Inscription costs $73,050. The range-topping Excellence model, exclusively available on this hybrid XC90, costs at least $104,900, although a fully loaded model with all available options will likely cost in excess of $120,000.

What Volvo XC90 Hybrid Model Should I Buy?

Our pick of the bunch here is the Inscription model. In addition to the standard features found on the base model, you also get massaging and ventilated front seats, Nappa leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof. The base model is good, but not as luxurious as this one, while the R-design, with its stiffer suspension sacrifices some comfort. The Excellence model is vastly more opulent than any other, but it's also ridiculously expensive and sacrifices practicality in the pursuit of supreme rear passenger comfort. Thus, the Inscription, with its relatively affordable pricing, impressive standard features, and greater option availability over the base model, is our pick for comfortable and practical family ferrying.

2019年沃尔沃XC90 Hybrid vs Lexus RX Hybrid

雷克萨斯RX混合动力是一个更加负担得起的alternative if you're looking for an electrically-assisted luxury mid-size SUV. It starts at a little over $46,200, but produces less power. The 3.5-liter V6 hybrid power plant in this produces 308 hp and 247 lb-ft, lagging far behind the XC90's 400 horses and 472 lb-ft of twist. In addition, the Volvo is equipped as standard with almost every available safety feature and offers better handling ability than the boat-like Lexus. However, the Lexus RX Hybrid offers a combined mpg figure of 30 and has a larger fuel tank. If you're looking for a comfy and fuel-efficient luxury SUV, the RX is tempting, but we'd rather opt for the Volvo with its better luxury features, more comprehensive standard safety systems, and impressive handling and performance.

2019年沃尔沃XC90 Hybrid vs Tesla Model X

特斯拉模型X是一个类似的豪华SUV,但是as it's fully electric, the price is higher than that of the Volvo XC90 T8, starting at almost $85,000. However, it doesn't offer the luxury features that the Volvo does. It doesn't feature massaging or ventilated seats, a bottle cooler, or quad-zone automatic climate control. What it does offer is a unique set of Falcon Wing rear doors, a simple but futuristic design philosophy, and electric motors that produce the equivalent of 518 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque - in the regular version. The Performance model is even more insane, with 761 hp and 730 lb-ft of torque. This makes it a far quicker and faster alternative. However, you can't seat more than five in the Model X as comfortably as in the Volvo. For us, we'd prefer a better all-round package, and the Volvo delivers exactly that.
