The new Defender has been so popular that Land Rover has struggled to keep up with thehuge demand. But what if you prefer the utilitarian styling of the original off-roader? Enter theIneos Grenadier, a rugged off-roader designed based on a unique platform with boxy styling inspired by the originalLand Rover Defender. Unfortunately, production of the Grenadier has been delayed, but Ineos will soon be opening the order books.

In the UK, sales for the Ineos Grenadier will start in July 2022, retailing for around £48,000 ($64,544) - around $18,000 more than the MSRP of the new Defender. Ineos is currently looking for retail partners to sell the Grenadier in the US in 2023.

Ineos has also partnered with Bosch, which will allow owners to have their Grenadier repaired and maintained at one of 10,000 Bosch Car Service centers around the world. Ineos is confident that customers will never be further than around 30 miles from an Ineos-accredited workshop.

"We wanted to give customers the choice of how much they wanted to see us, which means providing a full combination of digital and physical options," said Mark Tennant, Commercial Director at Ineos Automotive. "Customer convenience, parts availability, service quality: we are focusing on getting the basics right, giving customers the buying experience they want and the aftersales support they need.

"If preferred, customers in our main markets will be able to buy their Grenadier online, including organizing vehicle finance and handling any part exchanges. But we fully accept that most will want to try before they buy, for which having an extensive network on the ground is essential."

Under the hood, the Grenadier is powered by a BMW 3.0-liter straight-six paired with a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

In the UK, the Grenadier will be sold at 23 retail sites. Ineos is also partnering with retailers in Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and Middle East. According to Ineos, around 75,000 people have already registered interest in buying a Grenadier. These customers will be invited to place a build reservation today, September 30, for an exclusive two-week period. Reservations will then open to everyone else on October 14.
