Porsche's Electric Cayenne Is Coming

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but if an all-electric system ends up powering the current generation of the Cayenne at some point, we've had a crack at what it could look like and given you an idea of what to look forward to.

一个s you can see, the changes we'd expect from a production version are minimal. Under the skin, however, we expect to see more serious alterations, like the addition of the Volkswagen Group's EV architecture that is also expected under the electric Macan.

Porsche's only current electric car, the Taycan, produces up to 750 horsepower, and as a full EV, that is possible here too, but more important will be torque and off-road capability. With that in mind, the Taycan's 774 lb-ft of torque sound more than adequate, while clever electronic trickery should be able to mimic locking differentials.

This is still a Porsche though, so that same electronic trickery combined with a low center of gravity, plenty of instant grunt, and Stuttgart's excellent suspension systems should mean something that's far more fun to drive than, say, a Rivian R1S or GMC Hummer. The possibility of a frunk will also make this the most versatile Porsche ever.

To be honest, we doubt that an electric Cayenne is coming just yet for a number of reasons. For one, the Taycan is an electric Panamera in some ways, yet is a completely different vehicle. As such, it's quite possible that the electric Cayenne could be called something altogether different, just as theelectric Macan may. In addition, Porsche is working on a newsuper-SUV to fight the Lambo Urus.

This could well be the perfect way to send the current Cayenne off before introducing either an all-new model developed from the outset to accept an EV powertrain or even an all-new model that is called something different but has similar dimensions. Either way, a Porsche electric SUV will come before the decade draws to a close.
