A compact SUV with three rows could arrive with the Grand Compass moniker.
The Jeep lineup has expanded considerably in recent years with smaller models offering rugged off-road capability in a more affordable package. But of all the new additions within the Jeep brand, there is still no three-row SUV with the ability to hold more than five passengers. Jeep does offer athree-row Grand Commanderfor the Chinese market and aGrand Wagoneer flagship modelis also rumored to be in the works, but a new rumor claims that a smaller three-row model could be arriving even sooner.
A recent配图for the2021 Jeep Compassshowed that something new is coming to the company's second-smallest model. While not a US-specific reveal, we expect Jeep to show off a slightly revised Compass with a new, Fiat-sourcedturbocharged engineunder the hood. Jeep is also rumored to be developing a three-row version of the Compass called the Grand Compass and rendering artist Kleber Silva has imagined what such a model could look like.
The rendering clearly takes inspiration from the Chinese market Grand Commander, altering the design to bring it more in line with the Compass. We think the end result looks a bit too large to still be considered a compact vehicle but this is just a rendering after all. Silva also took an opportunity to render the 2021 Compass facelift. This image looks far more believable because it takes the current Compass and modernizes the front end to match the most recent Grand Cherokee.
Having a smaller three-row crossover to sit below the Grand Wagoneer in the lineup could make sense for Jeep. The smallest crossovers on the market that currently offer a third row only include the Mitsubishi Outlander, Volkswagen Tiguan, and on the luxury side, the Mercedes-Benz GLB. A three-row Grand Compass could open the Jeep brand to a market with very little competition.
