Honda Begins Production Of Civic Hatchback In The US

Honda has invested over $50 million at the Indiana Auto Plant based in Greensburg to start mass production of the all-new 2022 Civic Hatchback. This investment includes a new building designed specifically for laser braze technology, and an increase in the use of structural adhesives for improved body rigidity.

Global production of the Honda Civic hasremained on trackdespite the ever-lingering effects of theinternational semiconductor chip shortage. The Indiana Auto Plant (IAP) started out building the Honda Civic in 2008 and was the first US plant to build the Honda Insight, Acura ILX, and CR-V Hybrid.

"We are proud that the Indiana Auto Plant has been chosen to lead production in North America for an all-new model like the 2022 Civic Hatchback that is playing an increasingly important role in the US market. Being selected to build the Civic Hatchback speaks to the experienced workforce we have here in Indiana and highlights the confidence Honda has in our associates to build the quality cars and light trucks our customers love," said Larry Geise, plant lead at IAP.

The Civic Hatchback holds some seriously impressive records: with over 1.7 million 10th-generation cars sold, the Honda Civic has been the best-selling vehicle in America with first-time buyers, millennials, Gen Z buyers, and multicultural customers over the last five years. The new Civic will be offered with a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque , or a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 180 hp and 177 lb-ft. Honda will offer the new Civic with a six-speed manual or CVT automatic. The Civic Hatchback will start at $22,900 for the base LX CVT with the 2.0-liter engine and goes up to $29,400 for the Sport Touring CVT with the 1.5-liter turbo. The hatchback is on sale now.
