Followinga recent teaserand the strangest leak of all time, the2022 Honda Civic Hatchback已经到来,在往下吗cess of thepreviously-revealed Civic Sedan. Unlike the previous Civic Hatchback, this new model will be built in the United States at Honda's Greensburg, Indiana plant. And unlike the sedan, which is only available with a continuously variable transmission, the hatchback offers an available six-speed manual box.

While the 10th generation Civic Hatchback only offered a turbocharged engine, this 11th generation model now comes with two choices under the hood. The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while the optional 1.5-liter turbocharged mill on the EX-L and Sport Touring trims delivers 180 hp and 177 lb-ft. Honda says the six-speed manual is available for both engines on the Sport and Sport Touring trims and features improved rigidity and shorter throws.

The CVT is improved as well, with a beefed-up electric hydraulic pump, ball-bearing secondary shaft, and revised Step-Shift programming to simulates physical gear changes during hard acceleration. For improved fuel economy, CVT-equipped models receive a new stop-start feature. The Sport and Sport Touring trims receive a sport mode and the standard normal and eco modes.

To keep the Civic Hatchback fun-to-drive, Honda tuned the suspension and steering in Europe specifically for a North American audience. As with the sedan, the hatchback gets MacPherson front struts with low-friction ball joints front damper mount bearings to improve steering feel. The rear track on the hatch is half an inch wider in the rear for more stability and the wheelbase longer for improved ride comfort.

Inside the cabin, the hatchback looks the same as the sedan. The LX, Sport, and EX-L trims receive a new seven-inch LCD instrument display with a digital speedometer/tachometer on the left and physical dials on the right. Upgrading to the Sport Touring model replaces this setup with an all-digital 10.2-inch display. Those lower trim levels all use a smaller seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the Sport Touring gains wireless phone mirroring on a larger nine-inch screen plus Qi wireless charging. Sport Touring trims pair the upgraded infotainment system with a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system.

The outgoing Civic Hatchback boasted vastly different dimensions than its sedan counterpart, but this 11th generation model is broadly similar in all measurements. Rear legroom is improved by 1.4 inches over the previous model, and the cargo area yields 24.5 cubic feet of space, far more than the sedan's 14.8 cubes. Honda styled the hatchback with shorter overhangs, distinctive grille mesh, a sleeker roofline, and unique taillights to give it a sportier flavor over the sedan. It's even available in bolder colors, such as Boost Blue Pearl and Smokey Mauve Pearl.

No pricing information is available but the Civic Hatchback should cost more than the sedan, which starts at $22,695 with a destination charge. Ifa leaked product mapturns out accurate, we can expect the hatchback to arrive at Honda dealerships starting September 2021. Eventually, this hatchback body style will spawn the hardcore Civic Type R.
