2022 Nissan Rogue Review: Poised To Steal The Crown

Compact crossovers are easily the best-selling vehicles in the States, but the Nissan Rogue has struggled to match the value proposition of theToyota RAV4andHonda CR-Vin the past. However, Nissan has taken a huge step towards closing the gap by replacing the lackluster 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder with a more capable 1.5-liter turbo-four for the new model year. The new engine makes 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft. Combined with its already upscale and well-appointed cabin, this makes the Rogue one of the most well-rounded vehicles in its class. It doesn't want for safety, either, with advanced features like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert included as standard. Though its competitors have always maintained a steady lead in terms of sales, they have a reason to worry at last, since the Rogue now has the power and practicality to pose a real threat. But only time will tell if consumers feel the same.

Handling and Driving Impressions

The Rogue is a surprisingly confident compact crossover. The multi-link rear suspension provides a smooth and compliant ride that isn't overly stiff. It handles well, too, though it's still far from being a sporty vehicle. That being said, the Sport mode does tighten up throttle responses a little. Eco mode, on the other hand, softens responses and can be quite frustrating. Normal is a good middle ground, as it's meant to be.

Overall ride quality is smooth and quiet, with little wind or road noise making its way into the cabin, while the Zero Gravity seats keep occupants comfortable, no matter how long they spend in the car. This makes the Rogue feel more premium than its price would suggest.

There is an Off-road mode on all-wheel-drive models, which works well with the 8.2 inches of ground clearance to give the Nissan decent off-roading capabilities. However, it's not a particularly rugged vehicle. Instead, you will likely use Snow mode to improve traction on slippery road conditions in cold-weather states.

Verdict:Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue A Good SUV?

Though it has only received minimal changes, the new Nissan Rogue crossover is much improved. This is thanks to its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-pot engine, which increases power and acceleration while simultaneously improving fuel economy. This was the missing part of the recipe that held the Rogue back from mainstream success last year. Yes, the price has been bumped up slightly, but it was already one of the best-value crossovers on the market thanks to an extensive safety suite and nice-to-have features. Aside from this, the compact Nissan is a good-looking, smooth-riding vehicle that delivers a more premium experience than the price tag would suggest. Cargo capacity is good, too, and rear passenger space is very generous. However, its leading competitors, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, have a headstart in terms of garnering a good reputation for all-around excellence. The Rogue is now equipped to match or beat them, but only time will tell if consumers notice.

What Nissan Rogue Model Should I Buy?

You generally get the best value for money in the middle of any car range, and the same is true of the Nissan Rogue. The SV gives you power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, an upgraded sound system, and intelligent intervention safety systems. If you don't need AWD to deal with tricky road problems like sleet or snow, you'd be better off saving the money. Thanks to the new engine, the upper-tier SL and Platinum compete better with their Mazda CX-5 counterparts, so they are worth it if you have the cash.

2022 Nissan Rogue vs Nissan Murano

The Murano is one of the oldest models in the Nissan lineup, so the Rogue easily wins in terms of modern tech. Both cars are spacious and comfortable, but while the Murano is larger, it doesn't have a significantly larger trunk or rear seat. However, the V6 engine is livelier, and if it weren't for the new turbo-four in the 2022 Rogue, the Nissan Murano would be the more engaging driver. As things stand, the Rogue is simply better in just about every way. It's quick, efficient, spacious, modern, and eminently safe. On top of all this, it's also a lot more affordable than the larger SUV.

2022 Nissan Rogue vs Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is one of the most popular compact crossovers on the market, so the Nissan Rogue has its work cut out for it. On the plus side, it has more power than the CR-V's 190 horsepower and is close to the hybrid's 212 hp. Both feel pleasant to drive, biased towards comfort and economy as they are. Similarly, each crossover is remarkably capacious. The Honda does have a slightly bigger trunk, though. To counter this, the Nissan Rogue hits back with loads of features, even at the base level, while top-tier models easily trounce the Honda. Before, we would have given the CR-V an edge for its powertrain, but now that the Rogue's weak point has been addressed, it seems to be the better buy.
