The Vision Neue Klasse will likely preview the next BMW 3 Series.

In a quarterly conference call, Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, confirmed when we will get to see the company's next concept car.

The BMW Vision Neue Klasse will make its debut on September 2 at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany. The Vision Neue Klasse will be a more production-ready version of thei Vision Dee that debutedearlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show. It hasalready been hintedthat the i Vision Dee will morph into the next-generationBMW 3 Series, which will be a fully electric vehicle.

"Now, once again, we are turning vision into reality," said Zipse. "I can promise you that the Vision Neue Klasse is close to standard production and will be on the roads soon."

There will be other EVs based on the Neue Klasse platform as well, and they will be built in Germany first before production eventually extends to Mexico in 2027.

BMW has teased the interior of the Vision Neue Klasse with amassive Panoramic Vision displayextending the entire windshield length. The concept should also preview other new technologies, such as an advanced ECU, 800-volt charging, and more.

According to BMW, the Neue Klasse is themost expensive projectin its long history.

"The Neue is a mega-project that spans the entire company. It is about nothing less than the future of the BMW brand, the BMW Group, and our portfolio," said Zipse. "We are in intensive preparation for this and will continue to make significant investments in relevant future technologies over the next few years."

It's not an understatement to say that the Vision Neue Klasse (and the production car it previews) will be this decade's most important BMW vehicle. With most luxury automakers shifting towards crossovers, BMW will be one of a handful of companies to offer an electric sedan. This will give the next-generation 3 Series a possible leg up against the competition, especially if BMW delivers on its promises of more extended range and faster charging.

It may be a while before we see the car on public roads, but we look forward to seeing what the near-production-ready next-gen 3 Series looks like.
