Watch The 2022 Honda Civic Si Prepare To Race

Honda introduced the eleventh-generationCivic Sedanearlier this year. The new four-door was a return to more restrained styling, after the tenth-gen's wild look. TheCivic Hatchbackcame next and soon we'll see the Civic Si running the streets, as well as running at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill race in December. We got a sneak peek today, as Team Honda Research-West was testing its latest sporty compact.

We get a lot of views of the new Si in the super high-quality, but short, video clip. The race car is still camouflaged, though we've already seen a few shots of theproduction vehicle. Unfortunately, we won't be getting the big wing and/or the hood vents. But feel free to find them in the aftermarket.

So far we know that theSi has been delayed. It was supposed to drop in September, but now it's looking like November. We're guessing it's a chip shortage thing, though Honda has given no indication. We also know that it will only come in sedan bodystyle thanks to a tweet from Honda Canada. That's not great news as the hatch is the coolest looking version, but we've rarely been disappointed by an Si. We also know that it willcome in six colorsincluding Crystal Black Pearl, Aegean Blue Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, Rallye Red, Platinum White Pearl, and a new Blazing Orange Pearl finish.

We don't know about engine choices but we're predicting it'll keep the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four as last year, because the rest of the lineup kept the same powertrains too. That means 205 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque, and a six-speed manual transmission only.

The best part about the new Si will be interior, as Honda has revamped and simplified the cabin with cooler design touches, knobs and dials for important functions along with steering wheel controls for the rest.

We're also waiting on news of theCivic Type R, which is definitely on its way. We're extra interested to see what that will come out looking like, as Honda has also smoothed out and simplified the sheetmetal across the board. Hopefully it still looks properly aggressive. We'll be driving the new Si soon, so stay tuned for that, and keep your eyes out next month, it should be at dealers and on the streets.
