New Genesis G90 Spied Testing Advanced Autonomous Tech

A new era for Genesis is about to begin as Hyundai's luxury division will soon launch its first-ever dedicated electric vehicle: the GV60 SUV.Leaked photoshave already shown the new electric SUV completely undisguised, suggesting that the official reveal is imminent. This isn't the only new model Genesis is busy working on, however.

TheGenesis G90has been on sale since 2016 and received a facelift for the 2020 model year, but spy shots have shown that anall-new version of the flagship sedanis just around the corner. A new photo of a camouflaged prototype has emerged on the Korean forum Bobaedream via The Korean Car Blog, offering the most revealing look yet at the all-new Genesis G90.

This latest G90 prototype is fitted with LiDAR radars mounted to the front that will enable Level 3 autonomous driving when using Hyundai's Highway Driving Pilot assist. This will give the new G90 an advantage over its competitors like the current Audi A8, which only offers Level 2 semi-autonomous tech, establishing it as the technology flagship in the brand's model lineup. Adding Level 3 autonomous tech will also enable Genesis to compete with the new Mercedes S-Class, but the new G90 will likely be significantly cheaper. Cars using level 3 autonomous tech do not require the driver's hands to be on the wheel - provided it is safe to do so and the legislation is in place to allow it.

However, cars with Level 3 autonomous technology still aren't legal in the US, leading Audi toabandon plans to equip the current-generation A8with the technology.

We also get a clearer look at the G90s' larger crest grille, which has a diamond mesh pattern, and split headlights matching the brand's new design language. For the first time, the new G90 will feature air suspension for a smoother ride. Under the hood, the new G90 will reportedly ditch the current model's 420-hp 5.0-liter V8 in favor of a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6. In the G80, this unit generates 375 hp and 391 lb-ft. The new Genesis G90 is expected to arrive in South Korea later this year before launching in the US next year.
