Money Laundering Corvette Driver Crashes Into Abandoned Building

Carcrashes happen all the time, but not all involve a C7Chevrolet Corvette Stingraywith over $18,000 in cash, a loaded gun, and an empty bag that smelled awfully like marijuana left inside. The Lake Worth, Texas police department say the Corvette driver, identified as 24-year-old Marcos Diaz, fled the scene immediately after crashing into an empty building early last Friday morning.

Witnesses say he took off carrying a backpack that was later confirmed to contain another $20,000 in cash. Because he was on foot and likely somewhat disoriented from what was clearly a semiserious collision, Diaz didn't get very far and police soon apprehended him.

The crash, which wasn't caused by racing or intoxication and remains under investigation, turned out to be the least of his problems. Police discovered there were already two active arrest warrants out for him for the delivery of less than 50 pounds of marijuana and for evading arrest with another vehicle.

If the latter turns out to be true, then Diaz will find himself in an even bigger mess. The combined charges of car theft, money laundering, carrying an unlawful weapon, and possession with intent to sell mean one very clear thing in Diaz's future: jail time. Texas doesn't react kindly to people convicted of these kinds of charges and he'll likely end up behind bars for many years.

As for the C7 itself, based on what we can see from the two images it's probably totaled. The front end damage looks pretty severe and the V8 engine also probably can't be salvaged.
