A high-performance NSX has been long overdue.

It's been three years sinceAcura launched the second-generation NSX supercar, and we've been waiting for a hardcore Type R version to join the lineup ever since. There have beenplenty of rumorsabout thehigh-performance NSX over the years, but a new report byForbesclaims to have some juicy new details. According to the publication, the new NSX Type R will debut this October at the Tokyo Motor Show with a plethora of performance upgrades.

Forbes claims the NSX Type R will get an extra 77 horsepower, bringing the total output to 650 ponies, although it doesn't say how Acura plans to extract extra performance from the NSX's twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 and three electric motors. Other modifications will allegedly include stiffer uprated suspension and stabilizers, beefier carbon-ceramic brakes, and more aerodynamic exterior components including a rear wing and front splitter inspired by the NSX-GT race car.

What isn't clear, however, is whether the Type R will retain the NSX's controversial SH-AWD system. Expect to pay a premium for the more powerful Type R, too. While the standard Acura NSX starts at $157,500 and is currently the most expensive new car built in the US (although it will soon be beaten by theMercedes-Maybach GLS), Forbes claims the NSX Type R will set you back around $200,000.

一热,有时说说讴歌NSX姗姗来迟,特别是sales of the Japanese supercar have been disappointingly slow in the US. In the first four months of 2019, only 110 NSXs found new homes in the US. To put that into perspective, the Civic sold over 100,000 units in the same time period. Last year's total sales were also dismal, with just 170 NSXs sold Stateside. Let's hope the Type R version can give the NSX a much-needed sales boost.

If Forbes' report is accurate, we'll have to wait until the Tokyo Motor Show media day kicks off on October 23 for the new Acura NSX Type R to debut.
