This Is The Cheapest Way To Own A Porsche 911 Turbo

The good folks at Lego have a new toy for us to play with.

Our inner children still love Lego, and the Danish toy company knows how to appeal to our adult nerd and inner child sensibilities. It also knows how to satiate car enthusiasts, and its new Porsche 911 model does just that. It also delivers two models in one package as you can use the same 1,458-piece set to build either the classicPorsche 911 Turboas a coupeor as Porsche 911 Targa. Either which way you build it, the 911 lego model has a faithfully recreated interior, including functioning tilting front seats, functional steering, gear stick, and the old-school handbrake lever.

On the outside, equal attention to detail has gone into the iconic styling and features of the 1980s poster car. The Turbo's whale-tail rear spoiler is faithful in detail and proportion, the engine features the turbo and intercooler, and the proportions are recreated with its wide rear axle. Build the Targa body style model, and the Targa bar with rear glass behind the driver is detailed, and the model can store the roof under the hood. The engine is, of course, in the back as Porsche intended and displays the air-cooled nature clearly with a prominent fan. In either form, the model is over 13.5 inches long and six inches wide.

The Lego Porsche 911 will be available in stores as of March 1, 2021, but VIP loyalty program members can get early access on February 16. It costs $149.99 in the US and, if you are already or join as a VIP member now, Lego is also offering a limited-run package that comes with a certificate of ownership, a card wallet, and four classic Porsche adverts as art prints. The model ispart of Lego's Creator Expert lineand is marked as suitable for people 18 years and older.

We don't think it's Lego's greatest set yet as that honor goes to the 1:18 scaleLamborghini Sian FKP 37 in the Technic Ultimate series. However, that retails for $379.99 and is a pure show and collector's piece.
