Rally-Inspired Electric Supercar Arrives With 1,340 HP

Tesla set a new benchmark for EV performance with thesurprise reveal of the new Roadster. With a 0-62 mph time of just 1.9 seconds and a top speed of over 250 mph, it's destined tobecome the world's fastest production carwhen it launches in 2020. Unsurprisingly, other electric car companies are starting to take notice. Enter the Taipei-based electric powertrain startup XING Mobility, which has just announced a new rally-inspired electric supercar that produces 1,341-hp. That's Koenigsegg Agera RS levels of power in an electric car.

Dubbed the "Miss R," XING claims the prototype supercar can hit 0-62 mph in just 1.8 seconds which makes it quicker off the line than the Tesla Roadster. 0-124 mph is also achieved in 5.1 seconds, while top speed is said to be over 168 mph which is significantly slower than the Roadster's claimed 250 mph+ top speed. Power is provided by four independent 350v electric motors that gives the car four-wheel torque vectoring. Unlike the Tesla Roadster, the Miss R is designed to provide a versatile driving experience on the road, the racetrack and rough terrain, making it the world's first electric supercar with on-road and off-road capabilities.

"Miss R is the embodiment of the paradigm shift of EVs surpassing traditional combustion-engine cars in both performance and capability," CEO Royce YC Hong explained. "The core idea behind the prototype is to achieve game-changing performance levels and driving experiences that are otherwise impossible to achieve in a gasoline-powered vehicle." XING hasn't revealed the maximum range of the Miss R, but the car will incorporate a lightweight battery swap system that allows the entire battery enclosure to be changed within five minutes. The in-house battery system also contains 98 stackable Lego-like battery modules, each housing 42 lithium-ion cells bringing the total up to 4,116 cells.

As well as incorporating the technology into a production supercar, XING is already in talks with commercial and industrial vehicle makers to apply the battery system to city buses, ride-sharing scooters, construction vehicles, and purpose-built boats. The startup company has been testing prototypes of the Miss R, including one with the full drive-train exposed.

XING is planning a speed test of the Miss R at full power in the future and aims to reveal a finished prototype in late 2018. Production of the electric supercar will be limited to just 20 units, with prices starting at $1 million.
