What will these new models be?

Mercedes-Benz has begunintroducing a new lineup of electric vehiclesunder its new EQ model designation. Much like Audi's e-tron and BMW's i sub-brands, the EQ lineup will be expansive, ranging from small models like the recently-introducedEQAto large sedans and SUVs like theupcoming EQS. Mercedes plans to introduce a total of six new EQ models by 2022. To cover its backs, the company trademarked the names EQA up to EQX.

一个s it turns out, A through X wasn't enough, and Mercedes has recently filed for even more EQ-related trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademarks Office (USPTO). The most interesting filing was for the name "EQY" on January 22, 2021.

EQY was not part of the original flurry of EQ-related filings from 2016 and Mercedes has never offered a Y-Class here in the United States or globally.

It's too soon to tell what the EQY might be, as the possibilities range anywhere from a new SUV to a truck or van. Just six days later, on January 28, 2021, Mercedes was caught filling two more trademarks for the names "EQXX" and "Vision EQXX."

Unlike the EQY, we know what this model will be. Mercedes previouslyteased an impressive EV prototypecalled the EQXX, which boasts a groundbreaking 750-mile range.

In line with previous Mercedes reveals, we suspect the EQXX will arrive in concept form under the Vision EQXX name, followed by a production version that drops the "Vision" part of its name. Seeing these two patents makes us believe that Mercedes already has plans to launch a production variant soon after showing the concept. Not much additional information is known about the EQXX, but its silhouette looks extremely sleek and aerodynamic, a bit like the Volkswagen XL1.

Mercedes also filed for another patent on January 25 for something called "Microcut." The filling falls under the goods and services category for "Adjusted fabric covers of microfibre for vehicle interiors." Mercedes already offers a Dinamica microfiber on a few of its models but Microcut could be a new type of interior that will appear on future EQ models. Many EVs shun traditional leather in favor of non-organic materials to help foster a more sustainable image.
