BMW M8 Sounds Brutal With New Akrapovic Exhaust

Listen to that twin-turbocharged V8 roar.

With a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine churning out 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, the 2020BMW M8 Convertibleis not a car that needs much help in the sound department. BMW already offers a louder option with the M8 Competition, which includes an M Sport exhaust system and a 17-hp engine increase, but some buyers want an even throatier sound.

Slovenian exhaust maker Akrapovic is world-renowned for making German performance carssound louder than stock, and the company has now worked its magic on the M8 Competition. Rather than show a simple acceleration video filmed on a local road, Akrapovic shot a serious ad revealing its latest Slip-On Line (Titanium) exhaust system and Evolution Link pipe set.

Akrapovic says the exhaust kit fits the M8 and M8 Competition in the Convertible (F91), Coupe (F92), and Gran Coupe (F93) body styles. This particular video shows the M8 Competition Convertible sliding around a picturesque race track in the hands of a professional driver. There is a ton of production value here, almost like a car commercial or an episode of Top Gear; all to show how good this exhaust system sounds.

The footage includes a well-recorded exhaust note, which sounds growly and aggressive. Having justdriven the M8 Gran Coupe, we can definitively say that the Akrapovic sounds louder than the stock system.

In the video, we see the driver takes advantage of the rear-wheel-drive mode on the M8's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The car can completely shut off drive to the front wheels, sending all 617 horses to the rear, and smoking those rear tires. Akrapovic's exhaust sounds even better with screeching tires in the background. Pricing is not listed on the company's website, but Akrapovic is known for being one of the higher-priced exhaust systems on the market. If you want the best sound from your M car, though, you have to pay up.
