One car surprised him more than any other.

If you have a need for speed, there was no shortage of new performance cars to hoon around in this year. We've had everything from cutting-edge hybrid hypercars like theFerrari SF90 Stradale, muscle cars like theFord Mustang Mach 1, hot hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf R, and high-performance sedans like the new BMW M3. To find out which one is the best,Chris Harrisgathered 26 of this year's greatest performance cars with a combined 12,440 horsepower and put them through their paces forTop Gear's annual Speed Week test.

First up, Chris Harris and Jack Rix check out the SF90 Stradale. If you need a refresher,Ferrari's flagship hypercarpacks a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 supplemented with three electric motors generating nearly 1,000 hp.

But despite its clever technology, Harris was unimpressed with the SF90 Stradale as it's too "complicated." He found the SF90 drove differently than when he lasttested it onTop Geardue to calibration changes.

Next, Harris turns his attention to the Hyundai i20 N. With its front-wheel-drive setup, manual gearbox and 204 hp on tap, the i20 N is comparatively tame. However, Harris loved its simplicity and found the hot hatch more exciting than the SF90. He also seems to prefer the unhinged Lamborghini Huracan STO, which he says is the best Lamborghini he has driven since the Diablo in 2001. One of the most unusual contenders is a beautiful Peugeot 205 restomod, though it isn't cheap considering it costs £45,000 (over $62,000).

Moving onto the new BMW M3, Harris still isn't a fan of the sport sedan's controversial styling. While he acknowledges it's "a really good car," it "doesn't do it" for him. Then there's the Bentley Continental GT Speed. Despite it weighing two and a half tonnes, Harris had no trouble sliding it around corners, although that weight problem means that tires need regular replacing.
