This Remastered Ferrari V12 Is A Work Of Art

The Ferrari 250 GT Short Wheelbase is one of the prettiest and most valuable cars in the world, which is why a UK company calledRML group will build a modern interpretation. RML has already shared renderings of thecar's stunning interior, and has now announced more information about the work of art that will sit under the hood. As expected, the Short Wheelbase will use a 5474cc (5.5-liter) naturally aspirated V12 producing 478 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 419 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm.

The V12 is sourced from a 550 Maranello, a successor to the 250 GT and predecessor to the2021 Ferrari 812 Superfast. With what will likely be a low curb weight, RML says the Short Wheelbase will hit 60 mph in only 4.1 seconds and go on to hit 187 mph. The best part? It will use a six-speed gated manual transmission.

虽然生产相同的力量550,V12 is far from unaltered. "It was important for us to look at the V12's application in the 550 model so that we could benchmark its intake and cooling characteristics accurately. We then worked closely with the car's head of design, Jonathan Bowen, to make sure that ducting air into the engine not only met our requirements, but also didn't make any aesthetic compromises," said Powertrain Engineer Adnan Rahman.

RML had to design the inlet, cooling, and exhaust systems from scratch because the Short Wheelbase has different dimensions than a stock 550, even though the two cars share underpinnings. Rahman says the bespoke design will let customers make full use of the V12's power, and drive through Dubai traffic without overheating.

Other changes to the V12 engine include redesigned radiators (five in total), and a relocated oil tank for the dry-sump system. RML says it designed an all-new exhaust system from the manifold to to quad tail-pipes, helping the Short Wheelbase produce a sonorous note that meets all current noise regulations. We can't wait to hear the engine in action when the Short Wheelbase makes its first appearance later this year.
