Forget About Seeing The New Ford Mustang Anytime Soon

Rumor /9 Comments

New reports suggest that we have a long wait ahead of us.

TheFord Mustangremains an icon, despite the fact that its name has been muddied by the electric Mach-E. But purists have been worried that the next-generation 2023 S650 Mustangwill be unconventional, and some have suggested that it could even be electric too. That seems highly unlikely, but it does appear thathybridization is on the cards, along with thepotential for a radical new designthat borrows more from the aforementioned EV than some would like. But let's not start a war over what the next Mustang will be like. After all, a new report suggests that we'll all be arguing for a long time before we learn the nitty-gritty of the new pony car.

根据上面的YouTube视频(跳到5:06if you don't want to consume the full report), AutoForecast Solutions has reported that production begins in March. That would be great news if it weren't for the fact that this is March 2023 we're talking about. If the report is true, then the all-new Mustang appears to be behind schedule and will no longer arrive for the 2023 model year but rather MY2024. No reason is given for the delay, but we can only assume that supply chain issues related to the semiconductor chip shortage, the ongoing pandemic, and other factors have all contributed to the extended timeline.

Whenever it finally arrives, it will likely be the last of its kind. V8s are continually being eschewed in favor of more efficient and more powerful turbocharged V6 engines, and Ford has plenty of EcoBoost experience to make the smaller configuration as powerful as a traditional gas guzzler. For the final iteration of the V8-powered 'Stang, expect hybrid assistance, more tech, better quality, and possibly even AWD. But with the proliferation of new EVs like the Mach-E, Explorer, and F-150 Lightning entering the market, Ford may yet have enough low-emissions vehicles to justify one last overpowered hurrah for the V8. We can only hope.
