CarBuzz's First Ever Reader's Rides: Patrick Schalk

Our first installment features a guy that's been with CarBuzz longer than most of its writers.

A few months back we read some feedback from our beloved readers about giving you the opportunity to share your rides with the CarBuzz community. (Yes Matt Piccolo, we wrote it down!) So it is with great pleasure that we get to introduce the first CarBuzz Reader's Rides courtesy of Patrick Schalk. If you would like to be featured in an upcoming Reader's Rides, please send us an email at media@m.quixoticroad.com. Enjoy!

My name is Patrick Schalk and I enjoy just about anything with a motor in it. I'm more of a "build it, not buy it type" of car enthusiast. I prefer American muscle and I take pride in everything that I have done to my vehicles. Q: What got you hooked on cars? A: I first got hooked on cars by building model cars. The first I ever built was a Ferrari F40 with my dad. My mom had a 79 Z28 Camaro that was midnight blue with gold flake in it. The seats were vinyl and got super hot in Oklahoma. She actually had to use a pot holder to start it because the ignition would get so hot. She sold it to my cousin who later sold it. Sure wish my mom would've kept that for me.

Q: What was the last car you purchased? A: The last car I purchased was my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JKU) which has the 3.8L V6 (I hate it, but it gets the job done). It's a 6 speed manual and I plan on getting some Metalcloak overline fenders and skid plates for it in the near future. It's an absolute blast to take the tops and doors off, cruise around and offroad with it on a nice day. Q:What will be your next car? A: My next car will most likely be a 2500 Chevy Silverado or Ram. I have needed a truck in the last few months and miss having one. For a daily driver I am thinking about a Pontiac G8 GT, SRT8 Magnum, or a first gen CTS-V.

Q: What projects/mods are you working on now? A: Something I really want to get done in the near future is the interior of my Camaro. I am almost done swapping everything to black and plan on putting some black cloth Corbeau A4 seats in it with a roll cage and 5 point harnesses. It has ceramic coated longtube headers 1 7/8 into a 3" collector, 3" ORY pipe, electric cutout, CME exhaust, Magnaflow muffler, tons of suspension parts, arms and a k member, SS spoiler, C6 Corvette wheels, drilled and slotted rotors, short throw shifter, and some minor bolt on things such as CAI, smooth bellow, MAF, and a brake cooling kit.

我将升级车轮竞争灰色C6 Z06 or ZR1 wheels with C6 Z06 brakes, a Whipplecharger, forged internals, dry sump oil system, and the biggest fuel pump I can find with bigger injectors. Q: What's currently in your garage? A: I have my 1998 Camaro Z28 6MT, 2008 Jeep Wrangler JKU 6MT, as well as my wife's 2001 Nissan Pathfinder (back when the Pathfinder was a real Pathfinder). I have all of my tools, including a 26 gallon vertical air compressor, air compressor tools, jack stands, low pro aluminum jack, extra parts for each vehicle, cleaning supplies, and tons of oil. Hope to get a new pressure washer soon.

Q: In your opinion, what was the best car ever built and why? A: I don't know if I could pick a favorite car because I love so many but I think the most iconic and influential car of all time would have to be the Ferrari F40.
