2022 Alpina XD3 And XD4 Arrive With Updated Styling And Buckets Of Torque

Before the BMW X3 received the M performance treatment, BMW's Alpina performance divisionlaunched the XD3as a high-performance diesel-powered alternative to the standard X3. Just a few days after the2022 BMW X3M and X4 Mdebuted with fresh styling, more torque and upgraded tech, Alpina has wasted no time updating the XD3 and XD4.

Styling-wise, Alpina's performance SUVs receive the same tweaks as the X3 M and X4 M, including a larger grille slimmer LED headlights and redesigned bumpers. Alpina's signature quad exhaust tips are also fitted as standard.

Under the hood, the 2022 Alpina XD3 and XD4 are powered by an upgraded version of BMW's 3.0-liter inline-six quad-turbo diesel unit producing 389 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 22 lb-ft over last year's model. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels, the performance SUVs will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

The XD3 will top out at 166 mph, while the XD4 has a top speed of 167 mph. Alpina also offers a mild-hybrid version of the XD3 with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six rated at 350 hp and 538 lb-ft. This variant will hit 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 158 mph.

Alpina's updated SUVs also benefit from adaptive dampers specifically calibrated for the XD3 and XD4, and stiffer lower springs that lower the center of gravity should improve the driving dynamics. As standard, the XD3 and XD4 ride on 20-inch wheels, which can be upgraded to a set of 22-inch alloys. Inside, the luxurious interior can be customized with different piping, stitching, and embroidery options.
