2023 Toyota Prius Prime Safety and Reliability

Neither the NHTSA nor IIHS has subjected the Toyota Prius Prime to crash tests for safety ratings. Since it's a new generation, the reviews from last year may not be applicable. However, we are hopeful that they will be on par with or better than the five stars from the NHTSA or the mostly Good ratings from the IIHS achieved by the older car, especially now that full LED headlights are now standard.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all models, which comprises such safety features as proactive driving assist, pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection and mitigation, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert, and road-sign assist. You also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic jam assist, and safe exit assist. The upper trims and packages add front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, advanced park, and a surround-view monitor. All of this is on top of the standard ABS, EBD, and eight airbags: dual front, front side, rear side, and side curtain.

There is no official reliability review of the Toyota Prius Prime yet, but the last generation wasn't subjected to many recalls and the Japanese automaker is known to build some of the most dependable cars in the world. The 2023 Toyota Prius Prime is backed by a basic warranty that covers three years/36,000 miles and the powertrain is covered for five years/60,000 miles. There are two hybrid warranties; the systems are covered for eight years/100,000 miles, and the battery for ten years/150,000 miles.
