Porsche Teases Mystery 911 Reveal This Week

Teaser /4 Comments

All will be revealed on June 29.

Porsche France has shared a new teaser that suggests a new911variant or special edition is in the pipeline. Shared via its social media channels, the German automaker says the newcomer will debut on June 29 at 9:11 AM. This coincides with Le Mans Classic, a celebration of the famed endurance race that is expected to attract thousands of classic cars.

So we know when it will break cover, but what is it exactly? The teaser gives little away. However, we can see the 356 SL parked in the distance. This iconic racer claimed victory(751 cm3to 1,100 cm3class) at Le Mans in 1951, so it could be a tribute to this legendary Porsche.

By brightening the image, we're able to see additional details. The 911 badge appears on the rear fascia, while the plate reads "Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur."

This implies the 911 seen below could be a custom model that was commissioned for a special customer, possibly to celebrate100 years of Le Mans.

The rear bumper design doesn't differ from other models, and we can't see any other unique styling details. As such, it's unlikely Porsche will be revealing the 911 ST, which wears more prominent bumpers and various aero bits. Then again, Le Mans Classic would be an ideal place to reveal the latest special edition 911. If you're unaware, this model is reportedly based on the 911 GT3 Touring and should debut with a powerful 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six.

The most likely explanation is that this 911 is, as mentioned, a one-off custom build or a special edition for the French market. It hasn't been teased on other Porsche channels, so this is very likely.

It's not unusual for the Stuttgart-based company to produce special editions for specific markets. In 2020, it released a 911exclusively for the Belgian market, and the United States received the 911Carrera GTS Cabriolet America Editionjust last year.

Whatever this mystery 911 may be, at least Porsche is living up to its promises. CEO Oliver Blume said the company would launchmore special editions in 2023, adding that the automaker will also expand its bespoke customization program, known as Sonderwunsch.

We've already seen the incredible 911 Dakar, and there's a rumor that a new 911 Speedstermay emerge sometime this year. Let's not forget that Porsche is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, so this secret Porsche could be a celebration of that as well. We don't have long to wait, though, before all is revealed.
