2024 Nissan GT-R NISMO

The release date for the Nissan GT-R Nismo is scheduled for summer 2023, when it will be coming out in the USA as a 2024 model.

At $210,740, the current, 2023 GT-R Nismo is already almost $100,000 pricier than the standard GT-R. As no price for the 2024 Nissan GT-R Nismo has been confirmed, we expect it to start at around $215,000.

You could even get behind the wheel of an Italian exotic like the Ferrari Roma for not much more than the Nissan, or save $100,000 and get aChevrolet Corvette Z06.

These more modern rivals make the Nismo's price very difficult to stomach.

There have been quite a few changes made to the exterior of the new Nissan GT-R Nismo coupe. This is still a poster-worthy car, and although it can't be described as beautiful, it has all the menace and presence required of a sporty flagship.

Nissan has implemented redesigned front/rear fascias, different bumper sides, a reworked grille, and cool-looking LED fog lights with a hexagon-style graphic. The narrower upper grille resembles that of the R34 Skyline GT-R, and Nissan bucks the trend of grille designs that always seem to increase in size. Changes have also been made to the front lip, canards, and rear diffuser.

The familiar four-ring taillights and big quad-exit tailpipes still look great, and they sit below a new rear wing mounted on swan neck-style supports. This wing has a surface area that's larger by almost 10%, and the curvature of the wing optimizes both drag and downforce.

As standard, the Nismo is shod with 20-inch nine-spoke RAYS aluminum-alloy forged wheels with a black finish, and these are wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600 ultra-high-performance run-flat tires with a Nismo-specific compound. Red accents are added to the wheels with the available Nismo Appearance Package, also including a special clear coat for the carbon fiber hood and a unique engine cover.

The full range of Nissan GT-R Nismo colors isn't known just yet, but we do know that a new Nismo-exclusive shade known as Stealth Gray is on the menu. Previously available shades like Jet Black Pearl should also be offered.

Dimensions for the Nissan GT-R Nismo are much the same as before. It has a length of 184.6 inches, a width of 74.6 inches, and a height of 53.9 inches. All of this rides on a 109.4-inch wheelbase.

At 3,867 pounds, the Nismo is 68 lbs lighter than the standard GT-R thanks to the more extensive use of carbon fiber in its construction.

Displacing 3.8 liters, the twin-turbocharged V6 engine in the Nissan GT-R Nismo produces 600 hp at 6,800 rpm and 481 lb-ft of torque between 3,600 and 5,600 rpm. A dual-clutch sequential six-speed rear transaxle with paddle shifters and all-wheel drive complete the main components of the powertrain, and the new Nismo is expected to retain its 0-60 mph time of only 2.5 seconds.

Turbo lag and high noise levels are some of the shortcomings of this V6, and it can't match the acoustics and high rev limit of the naturally-aspirated V10 in the Audi R8, but Nissan says that noise, vibration, and harshness are better than before.

An enhanced suspension and the first-time fitment of a front limited-slip differential for the Nismo should make it a little more confidence-inspiring than before. That's joined by a 1.5-way mechanical limited-slip differential and traction control with limited slip. The powerful braking system boasts Brembo brakes with carbon-ceramic rotors that are 16.1 inches in front and 15.3 inches at the back.

The latest EPA specs on record for the GT-R are 16/22/18 mpg city/highway/combined, and we anticipate much the same for the 2024 model. With a 19.5-gallon gas tank, those figures work out to an average range of about 351 miles.

Step inside, and the first thing you'll notice are the Nissan GT-R Nismo's eye-catching Recaro seats. Exclusive to the Nismo, these seats have minimal padding, large cutouts, and leather/synthetic suede with red stitching. Recaro and Nismo branding, along with plenty of exposed carbon, are the finishing touches on these striking seats.

More carbon fiber is visible on the center console, along with red accents for the shift lever, start/stop button, tachometer, and 12 o'clock marker on the Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel. Although the blocky dashboard doesn't make for the most modern interior in the Nissan GT-R, the sporty materials used do a great job of elevating its appearance.

But while new seats and materials are simpler to add, it's more of a challenge to upgrade the technologies in a car that has been around in the same basic form for over 15 years when the non-Nismo GT-R arrived on the scene. For this reason, the Nismo sticks with a disappointingly small eight-inch color touchscreen and does without Android Auto. However, you do get Apple CarPlay, an 11-speaker Bose sound system, HD Radio, navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The latest driver aids are not available, again underlining the GT-R's age, so you'll have to look elsewhere if you expect the likes of adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, and lane departure warning.

The cargo space in the Nissan GT-R Nismo measures 8.8 cubic feet, which is enough for daily needs but insufficient for four people's luggage. Then again, adults will not be happy sitting in the cramped second row, so the Nismo is best considered a two-seater car with additional packing space behind the front seats.
