年代tellantis has revealed its new STLA Medium EV platform with a 400-volt architecture.

年代tellantis has unveiled the STLA Medium, an EV-dedicated platform that will underpin the company's future C and D segment (compact and midsized) cars, including sedans and crossovers/SUVs like the upcomingJeep Recon. While the STLA Medium promises to deliver impressive EV capabilities, the new and modular platform only comes with a 400-volt architecture.

Considering segment rivals such as theHyundai Ioniq 5can work at 800V, a 400V system could be a setback for年代TLA Medium-based carsbecause of their longer charging times.

According to Stellantis, the STLA Medium unibody platform can charge batteries from 20 to 80 percent in 27 minutes. Compared to the Ioniq 5, the Korean compact crossover can charge 10 to 80 percent in only 18 minutes. During long road trips, EVs using the new platform would theoretically have to wait longer during charging stops than segment rivals with an 800-volt system.

But the company is hitting back with a claimed range of more than 435 miles, beating even the streamlined Hyundai Ioniq 6, which has379 miles of cruising range. These numbers were registered under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) standard.

Moreover, the new platform can be as energy-efficient as the Lucid Air by consuming a similar rate of 4.4 miles per kWh. It will charge up batteries at a rate of 2.4 kWh per minute.

"What we see today is the product of just over two years of no-compromise innovation to deliver clean, safe, and affordable mobility supported by our 30 billion euro investment in electrification and software through 2025," said Carlos Tavares, Stellantis CEO.

"The STLA Medium platform demonstrates the power of the global Stellantis technical community, delivering products that are hyper-focused on our customers and rewriting long-held assumptions of transportation as we drive for carbon net zero by 2038."

Outside of EV capabilities, the STLA Medium can create cars with a wheelbase ranging from 106 to 114 inches, an overall length ranging from 169 to 193 inches, a ground clearance of more than 8.7 inches, and front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The first model expected to ride on the STLA Medium is the next-generation Peugeot 3008, a compact crossoverunavailable in the US. The first US-bound car underpinned by the platform is reportedly a Chrysler, perhaps theChrysler Airflow, which could arrive sometime in 2026.

年代tellantis said it could build up to two million STLA Medium-based vehicles annually, starting in Europe this year.
