Electric Genesis GV60 Is Less Powerful Than We Hoped

After the recent debuts of theHyundai Ioniq 5andKia EV6, Genesis is gearing up to reveal its first-ever dedicated electric vehicle. Rumored to be called theGV60, the first Genesis EV will bemore luxurious than its Hyundai and Kia siblings. Genesis has been struggling to keep the GV60 a secret, however.

A few weeks ago, aleaked photoshowed the rear of the GV60 completely uncovered as the electric SUV was being filmed for a commercial shoot. Thanks to information uncovered by The Korean Car Blog, we now also know the GV60's technical specifications.

In its domestic market, the Genesis GV60 recently passed emission and noise tests, revealing the specifications for the luxury electric SUV. Based on the same E-GMP platform as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Kia EV6, the range-topping Genesis GV60 will be powered by two electric motors rated at 218 metric horsepower each (215 hp SAE) each, providing all-wheel drive. Combined, this setup will generate 430 hp (SAE).

This makes it less powerful than the Kia EV6 GT, which produces a combined 576 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque from two electric motors. The base version, on the other hand, will utilize a rear-mounted motor rated at 225 horsepower, matching the output of the Kia EV6 Long Range.

Slotting above the base model will be the GV60 AWD Long Range, which has two electric motors with one at the front producing 100 hp and a 215-hp rear motor for a total output of 325 hp. Battery sizes weren't revealed, but the Genesis GV60 will most likely utilize the same 77-kWh and 58-kWh batteries as the EV6. Since the GV60 is around 110 pounds heavier than the EV6, it will probably have a slightly lower range.

For reference, the EV6 will travel between 230 and 316 miles depending on the specification based on WLTP estimates. Now that the specifications have been verified, we shouldn't have to wait too long for the Genesis GV60 to break cover.
