2023 BMW X4 Interior and Cargo

The interior of the BMW X4 is adorned in various premium materials and is offered in several colors for both leather and non-leather finishes. Vegan-friendly Sensatec upholstery is standard, and the range of X4 interior colors are attractive. It comes in Canberra Beige, Tocara Red, Cognac, or Black. If you want to opt for Vernasca leather, it will set you back $1,500, but this also unlocks additional color choices like Mocha and Oyster, although Canberra Beige falls away.

Trim options inside include Dark Oak Wood, Aluminum, Fine Wood open-pored Ash Grain, and Smoke Grey Aluminum Rhombicle. The M40i exclusively comes with carbon fiber inserts for an additional $300. This model also has a SensaTec dashboard that makes the interior feel even more upscale.

Regarding practicality and cargo space, the X4 is a case of style over substance; the sloping rear roofline hampers headroom and cargo space to a certain degree, but if you're genuinely all about cargo space, then go for the X3 and don't look back. The 2023 BMW X4 has a handy 18.5 cubic feet of space behind the rear 40/20/40 split fold-down rear seats. This is enough for a decent trip to the shops but is dwarfed by the 28.7 cubes in the X3. Similarly, the 50.5 cubes on offer behind the first row in the new BMW X4 SUV are overshadowed by the 62.7 cubes in the X3.

In terms of small item storage, you get the standard set of door pockets, a glove box, a center console storage compartment, and a nook in the front half of the dashboard for a cell phone and keys. There are two cupholders in the front and two in the rear.

Both the base xDrive30i and M40i models come with an impressive list of standard features, and the sheer abundance of tech lifts an otherwise drab interior. Both trim levels come with the Live Cockpit Professional digital instrument cluster, a power tailgate, power-adjustable front seats, a panoramic moonroof, and multi-zone climate control. Small details, such as the ambient interior lighting, are a nice touch. For the extra money you spend on the M40i, additional conveniences like comfort access keyless entry and lumbar support for the driver's seat become standard.

Standard driver-assistance features include active blind spot detection, frontal collision warning with city collision mitigation, lane departure warning, speed limit info, and front and rear parking sensors.

Being a BMW, there are loads of optional extras. Some, like the heated front seats and wireless charging, should ideally be standard. Other, more advanced options, include a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, and a parking assistant.

The X4, like so many other contemporary BMWs, comes with two 12.3-inch screens, those being for the instrument cluster and the central touchscreen. This system features Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 12-speaker sound system. For those that like their Shakira extra loud, BMW offers an $875 Harman Kardon sound system with 600 watts of power and 16 surround-sound speakers. We found that the infotainment system in the X4 works well; it's intuitive and quick to respond to inputs. New owners should get the hang of it in a day or two.
