TEASED: Toyota's Most Luxurious SUV Could Be Coming Next Week

Teaser /2 Comments

The automaker has teased a new model, and it looks like it could be the Century SUV.

Toyota has released a teaser for a new model, and all signs point to it being the Century SUV. A single teaser image shows the voluptuous rear end of a premium vehicle, with plenty of high-end details and rich black paint. We can see a white-gloved individual opening the back door, suggesting a car designed to be chauffeur-driven. The Century sedan has always been considered Toyota's Rolls-Royce, so this fits.

Apart from this, the automaker has provided no additional details except that it will premiere on September 6, 2023. But there's still plenty to unpack here. The prominent rear fenders, chrome detailing, and squared-off rear lights strongly resemble the exterior styling of the imposing Century sedan.

What's more, the profile closely resembles that ofthe luxury vehicle teased in June. We see traces of theRolls-Royce Cullinan在styling, which should appeal to the Century's 'old money' target audience.

Rumors of a Toyota Century SUVfirst emerged earlier this year, with Japanese reports suggesting an electrically-assisted 3.5-liter V6 would power the high-riding Century. The original Century sedan gained motivation from a V12 for decades, but Toyota recently switched to a hybridized V8 powertrain.

All signs point to the newcomer being based on theHighlander, underpinned by Toyota's TNGA-K platform. While the Highlander sounds like a relatively humble foundation for such a prestigious SUV, the platform is versatile and adapted for the three-rowGrand Highlanderand the more premiumLexus TX.

With a focus on passenger comfort and refinement, we expect the Century SUV to use an adapted version of the Lexus TX platform for more significant passenger space and on-road sophistication. Toyota will undoubtedly go the extra mile and change the TNGA-K platform to make it even more luxurious.

While the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX use a practical three-row seating layout, we expect the Century to eliminate one of these rows to maximize second-row legroom and comfort. This would create a grand and spacious environment for tired tycoons to stretch out and relax, especially if the Century SUV has reclining rear seats.

Several automakers currently offer this in their high-end offerings. Lexus has a brilliant setup inthe newly launched LM minivanthat could be used in the new Century derivative. We suspect this executive seating arrangement would be optional, and the standard layout could accommodate six passengers across three rows via captain's chairs.

As for pricing, the Century SUV is rumored to be even more expensive than the Land Cruiser 300, which is priced around the $52,000 mark. The current Century sedan has a starting price of approximately $140,000.

Thus, we expect the SUV to cost at least this much, potentially nearing the lofty asking price of the $200,000+Bentley Bentayga.

但是我们会在美国看到它吗?这个y早些时候ear, we speculated that there's a good chance the Century SUV would arrive in the States. After all,the quirky Crown made it here, so why won't a luxury SUV? They're a hot commodity (look at local sales figures), so there's a high chance it would be a success.

However, Toyota'sSUV lineup is vastly overpopulated, especially with the arrival of the new Land Cruiser. Add the Lexus lineup to the equation, and the Century SUV in America looks unlikely. We'll find out next week.
