2023 BMW X4 Performance

Modern luxury SUVs tend to be relatively quick thanks to advanced turbocharged technology, and the same goes for the all-wheel-drive BMW X4's specs. This sleek sports utility vehicle features a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in base xDrive30i form, and we think it feels just punchy enough. According to BMW, the 0-60 mph sprint takes exactly six seconds. This should make most people happy, but the power-hungry will naturally gravitate towards the more powerful and more capable X4 M40i. With 382 horses under the hood, this model will hit 60 mph in only 4.4 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 130 mph. With performance tires, the top speed limiter only kicks in at 155 mph. Either way, you go, there will always be enough power to navigate the world and have some fun at the same time.

Whereas a RWD X3 is available, the X4 only comes with AWD.

在何od of the 2023 BMW X4 lives two engines with very different characters. The base model receives a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine producing 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via BMW's tried and tested eight-speed automatic transmission. This unit provides excellent torque delivery with minimal turbo lag and strikes a great balance between power and efficiency. Both city and highway driving are a breeze, and the X4 never feels underpowered.

The turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder that powers the M40i is a different beast altogether. This B58 mill delivers 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and gets the X4 M40i hustling through the gears. Not only is it much more powerful than the base BMW X4 engine, but it makes a classic inline-six howl as it approaches the red line. It also has a 48-volt mild hybrid system which provides the dual benefit of improving efficiency and providing an extra electric boost of power when accelerating.

Despite the gulf in power and performance between the two BMW X4 models, they are actually quite closely matched in terms of efficiency. According to the EPA, the xDrive30i will manage 21/28/24 mpg on the city/highway/combined circuit. This isn't a bad number, but what impressed us the most was the M40i. Despite having two more cylinders and much more power, this model will return a similar 21/26/23 mpg. It's obvious that the 48-volt mild hybrid system in the M40i has its benefits for the six-cylinder X4's mpg rating.

With a 17.2-gallon fuel tank onboard, the X4 will achieve a maximum range of 413 miles in xDrive30i guise or about 395 miles for the M40i.
