Audi is finally ready to take on rivals such as theMercedes-AMG A35and BMW M235i Gran Coupe in the Sub-compact performance arena with thehighly anticipated S3 Sedan. We've beenclosely following progress在新汽车, and were glad to hear that the new wouldundercut both the Mercedes and BMW on price. Audi has now lifted the final veil by launching an online configurator for the new car. For 2022 Audi offers the S3 in three trims, starting with the $44,900 Premium, and followed by the $47,700 Premium Plus, and finally the $51,500 Prestige.

The Premium comes standard with 18-inch five-arm flag-design alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Panoramic sunroof, and driver assistance tech such as lane departure warning. The Premium Plus adds nice-to-haves such as wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise assist, and active lane assist. The top-tier Prestige includes Matric-design LED headlights, a head-up display, and Audi MMI Navigation plus. The price difference between the three is relatively insignificant, so we'd just go straight for the Prestige, and then we'd head straight for the options list.

If we were buying, we'd get the Prestige in Navarra Blue metallic ($595) with the Black optic package and 19-inch bi-color Black wheels ($1,950). The $1,100 S Sport package is also worthwhile if you're a keen driver, as it adds a sport suspension setup with damper control, and more importantly, red brake calipers (50 horsepower boost). That would bring our build to a respectable $56,190, including a destination fee of $1,045.

To get to the fully loaded model, all you have to add is add the abovementioned options plus the $3,900 exclusive paint color option, and the optional leather upholstery package for $1,250. In this configuration, the S3 Sedan will cost $60,745. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan for example only starts at $45,850, making the Audi an attractive option in standard form, but spec the Merc up to around $60k, and it makes up for its high initial cost with a superior list of tech features. The 2022 Audi S3 is powered by an aggressive 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and will hit 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds according to Audi.
