2024 Tesla Model 3

There's no official release date for the new Tesla Model 3 sedan, although Europe will be taking delivery in October of this year. We expect the US configurator to show the new model soon.

As with most of the other info about the brand-new Tesla Model 3 electric sedan, we don't know exactly how much it will cost here in the USA. The current model starts at just over $40k, so an increase in the price of the 2024 Tesla Model 3 will likely see it start around $43k for the Standard Range model, getting closer to $50k for the Long Range version. Performance variants will likely breach the $56k mark - if they're included in the lineup. European releases and configurators don't list the model just yet.

Rivals to the Model 3 include theHyundai Ioniq6 with its $41,600 MSRP or the much more premium BMW i4, which has a much higher starting price of $52,200.

The exterior of the Tesla Model 3 has always made it easy to spot and identify the car, even from a distance. But the update sees a refreshed look with a sharper front end and more contemporary headlight clusters. There are also updated wheel designs, although they're likely to stay the same in size. Current models sport 18-inch Aero wheels as standard, with 19-inch items as an optional upgrade.

To this end, there are sharper body lines and smoother surfaces for the latest Model 3, but the biggest changes are visible at the tail end. The new light clusters are striking C-shaped designs that seem much more contemporary than the version we've looked at since 2017. There's also a new diffuser under the trunk, and where we used to see a central logo on the trunk lid, we now see 'Tesla' lettering.

While the update hasn't revolutionized the look of the Model 3, it does feel more in line with an EV for 2024. As for paint colors, there's no official word on whether the 3 will get new options added to the limited palette. Familiar colors for the Tesla Model 3 include Midnight Silver, Pearl White, Deep Blue, Solid Black, and Red. Some new options would be a welcome addition, with Ultra Red and Stealth Gray being pictured on some models. Whether these colors will be available in the USA remains to be seen.

Although the new front and rear look may impact the overall length, the dimensions of the Tesla Model 3 should be the same as the outgoing model. This includes a wheelbase of 113.2 inches and 184.8 inches of car from nose to tail. Width comes in at 82.2 inches, and the current model stands 56.8 inches tall.

There may be a slight difference in curb weights on new models, depending on how much tech has been added, but the electric sedan should still weigh between 3,900 and 4,100 pounds.

There is no change to the powertrain of the 2024 Tesla Model 3, and it carries over with the same motor and battery setups as before. This means you'll get the single-motor base model with RWD and 257 horsepower, the dual-motor Long Range with 393 hp, or the Performance that ups the specs to 430 hp. Acceleration can be anything from satisfactory to extreme, with the RWD model getting from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds, while the AWD Long Range needs just 4.2 seconds to get there. Alternatively, you can speed to 60 mph in just over three seconds if you buy the Performance model.

Long Range models could go as far as 333 miles, while Performance versions managed just 18 miles less than that. These numbers are affected by wheel size, however, and keeping the stock Aero wheels will see the best results.

According to some sources, range has been increased, but by how much remains to be seen. Charging times remain the same, too, with a Tesla supercharger capable of adding 175 miles of range in 15 minutes. The maximum charging rate for the base model is 170 kW, while the upper trims get a bigger batter that can charge at up to 250 kW. With a wall connector, buyers should be able to top up with 44 miles per hour charged.

Harsh criticism for the Model 3 has lingered over the years with regards to low-quality interior bits and pieces, sloppy fit and finish, and a cabin that felt too low-rent for a supposedly 'premium' sedan. This update should bring the Model 3 a little more in line with this designation, and if what we see inside European models is true, it bodes well.

Firstly, the seats in the Tesla Model 3 are new and now boast ventilation alongside heating capabilities, and higher quality materials have ostensibly been used throughout. The demo model used in the European presentation show the out-of-place-seeming wood trim gone and a new steering wheel added - one with more controls, it seems. All of the stalks and levers behind the wheel have been done away with, and selecting the right gear is done via the big screen. Integrated ambient lighting adds a touch of pizzazz to the cabin, and what you can't see are new sound-deadening materials.

Speaking of the screen, the 15-inch unit carries over and still manages all the infotainment duties as well as some of the other vehicle functions. At the back, rear-seat passengers get a new eight-inch screen for climate control, ventilation, and multimedia playback. And while entertainment is being discussed, a new sound system is used in the Model 3 now - a 17-speaker unit on the Long Range version, while the base model gets a nine-speaker setup.

The center console sports a new design, too, and it's topped with aluminum and has space for the wireless charging of two devices. General cargo and trunk space in the Tesla Model 3 isn't likely to be any different from the total 23 cubic feet (including the frunk) we're accustomed to in the electric sedan.

Interior materials and colors on the Tesla Model 3 have changed, too, although details are still sketchy. We know that the upholstery is now perforated, but we're not clear on what the options are.
