2019年日产泰坦XD Review: A pony dressed as a draft horse

The Titan XD tries hard to be Nissan's heavy-duty pickup option, and it certainly looks and sounds the part. However, even with 555 lb-ft of torque available on the optional top-end Cummins V8 turbodiesel engine, the XD simply can't compete with rivals who focus on more than just looks. Straddling the line between lightweight trucks and true heavyweights likethe Ford F-250andRam 2500, the Nissan offers great ride quality and comfort thanks to its Zero Gravity seats; sadly, its towing capacity is absolutely dwarfed in comparison to core rivals. The starting price of $32,990 is no lower than most others in this segment, making the Nissan a pretty expensive showpiece. The truck tries to be more than it is, and in so doing, it loses what little credibility it had to begin with.

2019年日产泰坦XD Changes:What’s the difference vs 2018 Titan XD?

For 2019, Nissan adds a standard seven-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, additional USB ports, and the option of upgrading to a 12-speaker Fender sound system. Nissan's patented Rear Door Alert has been fitted to the longer body variants, and two new colors are also added to the existing palette, namely Moab Sunset and Midnight Pine. Diesel models are now also equipped with an integrated gooseneck trailer hitch with a cargo-bed plug.

Pros and Cons

  • Good ride quality
  • Comfortable seats
  • Customizable cargo bed
  • Quiet cabin
  • Low towing capacity for the segment
  • Outdated NissanConnect infotainment
  • Disappointing diesel engine
  • Wide turning circle diminishes maneuverability

Titan XD Exterior

Looking the part of a heavy-duty truck, the Titan XD is bulky in every sense of the word. The front grille is simply enormous, and the hood sports a removable aero spoiler. Blocky halogen headlights are installed as standard, with LED variants available on higher trims. Wheels sizes vary from 17 to 20 inches depending on trim, although the smaller sizes tend to look disproportionate. A choice of three body options is available: the eight-foot bed Single Cab, the 6.5-foot bed King Cab, and Crew Cab sporting a 6.5-ft bed at the back. Power heated exterior mirrors are equipped to all but the S trim, with a manual extension function for towing. All models feature overhead LED cargo bed lights.

Dimensions

While it may not be as powerful as rivals, the Titan XD is certainly as large, if not larger, than most. Length varies from 231 to 242.7 inches from single cab to crew cab guise. Similarly, wheelbase can be between 139.8 and 151.6 inches. Width is a standard 79.5 inches, except for the Pro-4X, which is wider at 80.7 inches. Standing anywhere between 77.2 and 78.9 inches tall, depending on trim and drivetrain choices, the Titan XD can manage a payload of anything from 1,920 lbs to 2,990 lbs, depending on engine configuration and whether it is 4x4 enabled or not. The truck can be as light at 5,901 lbs in its King Bed S guise, and as heavy as 7,470 lbs in its Crew Cab Platinum Reserve guise. Weight will depend on body style, engine choice, drivetrain choice, and features equipped.

Exterior Colors

The standard color palette for the base S trim comprises Glacier White, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Cayenne Red Metallic, and Magnetic Black Pearl. Added for the SV trim is Java Metallic and Deep Blue Pearl. 2019's new additions include Midnight Pine Metallic for the Pro-4X and up, and Moab Sunset Metallic for the Pro-4X only. For an additional $375, Pearl White Tricoat can be applied to the Pro-4X and up. The striking Forged Copper Metallic hue is exclusive to the Platinum Reserve, but it won't cost you extra.

Titan XD Performance

标准V8汽油发动机产生390马力and 394 lb-ft of torque, but an optional turbodiesel V8 can be equipped; it throws out a much more impressive 555 lb-ft in terms of torque, but offers slightly less horsepower, at only 310. While speed isn't the priority in such trucks, the XD can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 9.6 seconds. This doesn't sound impressive until you remember that the juggernaut weighs upwards of 6,000 lbs. Still, this is quite a bit slower than most V8 gas engines; it's the torque figures that matter in this segment though, and with the Cummins 5.0-liter V8 equipped, this full-size pickup can tow an impressive 12,640 lbs in its optimum configuration. This figure is only slightly higher than the gasoline engine but isn't all that much more than most full-size trucks. When compared to the real heavy-duty pickups which the XD is designed to compete with, it is rather disappointing. The Ram 2500 has a max towing capacity of 16,240 lbs, while the Ford F-250 can pull an incredible 25,700 lbs.

While rear-wheel-drive is the standard drivetrain on the Single Cab and King Cab variants of the S and SV trim, the King Cab Pro-4X and every Crew Cab trim come standard with a four-wheel drivetrain. All 4x4 variants have a dual-range transfer case included to aid in towing heavy loads more so than attempting serious off-roading.

Engine and Transmission

A V8 engine displacing 5.6 liters of regular gasoline, mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox, comprises the standard powertrain on every trim. This configuration produces 390 hp and 394 lb-ft, which is more than enough to move this cumbersome pickup around town and on the highway. And while it allows for superior payload capacities, it doesn't offer any impressive level of towing power.

The optional Cummins turbo-diesel 5.0-liter V8 engine is what gives this truck true power. While the diesel powerplant delivers only 310 hp, it makes an impressive 555 lb-ft. With torque for days, even this gargantuan truck can move with some degree of enthusiasm. This doesn't directly translate to speed though, and even the auto 'box is only satisfying when paired to the gasoline-powered engine. In its 5.0-liter configuration, the gears fumble and seem confused much of the time, almost seeming as insecure about its job as this truck is about its identity.

Handling and Driving Impressions

Despite the amount of power available to the Titan XD, the pickup is far from being athletic on the road. It can tow six tons, but it feels sluggish on the road for the most part. Merging and passing on the highway is a trial of patience, making you feel somewhat foolish in a car that looks so much stronger than it is. When you do manage to get it up to speed, you can rely on the powerful brakes to stop you in a controlled manner, but the pedal is too soft to inspire any real confidence.

The steering is not particularly talkative, and it feels on the slow and heavy side. Nevertheless, the truck responds to instructions as well as you would expect from a heavy-duty truck, despite the Titan feeling more like an overweight light-duty truck, if we are honest. At least it's well-mannered on the road, delivering a smoother ride than many of the more rugged heavy pickups. Still, light-duty contemporaries offer a better ride, yet again showing how confused the XD is when it comes to finding its place in the segment.

Ride comfort and noise control are quite a bit better than most heavy-duty pickups. The Zero Gravity seats are supremely comfortable, even over long rides, and the cabin dampens unwanted sounds. The Titan's engine is not as boisterous as rivals', so it's naturally not as loud, either.

Titan XD Gas Mileage

As with most heavy-duty trucks, the Titan XD is hamstrung with terrible fuel efficiency. The EPA does not rate vehicles in this category, but real-world reports show that the Nissan gets between 15 to 16 mpg over the combined cycle when equipped with the V8 turbodiesel engine. While uneconomical, this is still slightly better than heavier rivals like the Ford F-250, which gets approximately 14 mpg. With a 26-gallon fuel tank, the Titan XD can potentially cover 390 miles between gas station visits. The regular gasoline engine gets slightly worse mileage, but it costs a lot less to refill the tank.

Titan XD Interior

A well-built and spacious cabin is one of the XD's strongest selling points. It feels a lot bigger than it looks, and the seats offer astounding levels of support and comfort. The infotainment is a bit dated, and the interface feels too small for such a large vehicle. Still, the controls are ergonomically laid out, and there is more than enough space for both driver and passengers to move about. Seating and interior cargo space are dependent on body configuration too, and seats can be equipped with heating or climate control for a little more in-cabin luxury.

Seating and Interior Space

The Single Cab XD seats two, while the King and Crew cabs seat up to five. Regardless of the setup, the seats offer superior levels of comfort and space. With the amount of head- and legroom on offer, even tall adults can easily fit up front or in the rear seats. Entering and exiting the vehicle can be a bit tricky since the XD is among the tallest of heavy-duty trucks. This superior height does give drivers a significant degree of frontal visibility, although side visibility is less clear. The driver's seat provides eight-way power adjustability only on the upper trims. The telescoping steering column further enhances driving position customization.

Interior Colors and Materials

A spacious and well-built interior is hidden within the brutish body of the Titan XD. The dash and panels are comprised of hard plastics as standard, with an uninspired design throughout the cabin. The seats on the S and SV are upholstered in black cloth, with the latter featuring higher quality cloth and beige fabric on the King and Crew cabs. The Pro-4X comes standard with embroidered seats, but leather-options are available. Black or beige leather-appointed seats are standard on the SL, while the top-most Platinum Reserve trim supplies two-tone black/brown leather appointments with wood-tone cabin trim.

Titan XD Trunk and Cargo Space

Three bed options are available with the Titan XD: the eight-foot bed that comes with the Single Cab, the 6.5-ft bed that is provided with the King Cab and Crew Cab models. Combined with the available five-rail cargo tie-down system, this cargo bay is among the best in the class. Optional storage boxes are also available. Where the Titan fails to deliver, however, is its maximum payload capacity. In its optimal configuration, the truck can only carry 2,990 lbs of cargo. This is significantly less than rivals like the Ford F-250, which can haul 4,270 lbs effortlessly.

As if that segment-defining fail wasn't enough, the Nissan Titan XD also falls miles behind the competition when it comes to towing capacity. When fully equipped for maximum capacity, this so-called heavy-duty truck can only pull a total weight of 12,710 lbs. While it certainly sounds impressive - and it is certainly more than enough for most day-to-day towing needs - rivals like the F-250 or Ram 2500 make the XD look like a complete lightweight, towing up to 25,700 lbs and 16,240 lbs, respectively.

Small-item storage around the cabin is what you would expect in a vehicle of this size and class. The door pockets and glovebox are slightly smaller than average, but the center console bin is quite large; an optional overhead storage bin is available.

Titan XD Infotainment and Features

Features

Standard features on the base model S comprise a rearview camera, as well as keyless entry and ignition. The SV trim adds an advanced drive-assist display and a front overhead storage console, while extra features on the Pro-4X include rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, center-console-mounted 120-volt AC and 12-volt DC power outlets, an eight-way power driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, and rear air conditioning vents. The penultimate SL trim adds heated front seats, a four-way power passenger's seat, remote engine start with automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a driver's seat memory system, and front and rear sonar. The final features added with the top-tier Platinum Reserve comprise a surround-view camera, climate-controlled front seats, heated rear seats, as well as a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Infotainment

The infotainment suite on the Titan XD is quite basic and not as advanced as most modern competition. A seven-inch NissanConnect touchscreen now features across the range, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming, SiriusXM, and a four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system are standard. Nissan navigation is added with the Pro-4X trim, along with SiriusXM traffic. The SL trim upgrades the sound system to a 12-speaker Fender audio system, and NissanConnect Services is added to the display. While this ticks all the boxes, it's not particularly mind-blowing.

Titan XD Problems and Reliability

J.D. Power has not rated the truck for dependability, but the Titan XD has been subject to several minor recalls; these include incorrectly attached fuel tank breather tubes, faulty seat belts, and missing load capacity modification labels. At least Nissan offers a 100,000-mile/60-month basic and powertrain warranty coverage, giving buyers impressive levels of peace of mind.

Titan XD Safety

The Titan XD has not been rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS; however, the regular Titanderivative has been evaluated, and its results are largely applicable to the XD despite its heavier weight and larger dimensions. The NHTSA scored the Titan at four stars out of five, while the IIHS gave it overall scores of Good.

Key Safety Features

Standard safety features comprise vehicle dynamic control with a traction control system, four-wheel anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, a rearview camera, active brake limited slip, and six airbags: dual front, front side, and side curtain. To enhance safety, there are some additional features that can be equipped, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear sonar, trailer sway control, hill descent control, electronic locking rear differential, and a surround-view camera, which will undoubtedly be beneficial in maneuvering this mammoth truck safely in suburbia.

Verdict:是2019年尼斯an Titan XD a good Truck?

The Titan XD is somewhat difficult to classify, seeing as it sits on the fence between being a large lightweight truck and a true heavy-duty laborer. As such, it is hard to say if it's good compared to anything else since there are no clear cut rivals. But, to be honest, even in a class of one, it wouldn't stand out.

卡车提供真正的平庸的性能an engine that feels horribly underpowered for the size of the vehicle. The steering is responsive enough, but it's far from talkative, and the truck has an enormous turning circle. Towing capacity is nothing to brag about, being only slightly better than much cheaper light-duty trucks and paling in comparison to the real heavyweights like the Ford F-250 or Ram 2500. The only redeeming quality that the Nissan can lay claim to is that it offers a comfortable ride and a pleasant, well-dampened interior. But even then, so many rivals can make the same claim that it loses any genuine value.

For what you are expected to pay, this wannabe heavy-duty truck simply doesn't deliver on the promises that it's rugged design is making. If you want to look the part, you may as well play it too, considering you can pick up many better-performing trucks for roughly the same price. We cannot in good conscience recommend the Titan XD when the rivals mentioned above simply do everything it does, and they do it much, much better.

What's the Price of the 2019 Nissan Titan XD?

单一出租车范围提供最便宜的车型,with the S trim priced from $32,990 in its standard, petrol-powered, 4x2 guise. At the entry point to the range, the Titan XD is no cheaper than other heavy-duty pickups. The base SV will cost you $37,090 while choosing the diesel engine elevates the price to $38,620 on the base S trim and $43,230 on the SV. Should you want either of the above in 4x4, you will need to fork out an additional $3,140.

For the King Cab line-up, the S and SV trims $2,000 and $2,500 more respectively, nearing - and surpassing - the $40,000 mark when adding 4x4 capabilities. The Pro-4X is available from this trim level and up and is exclusively available as a four-wheel-drive; its starting price is $47,210 for the gas engine, and $52,340 for the diesel version.

双排座驾驶室修剪水平相同的年代,SV和职业-4X sub-trims, ranging in price from $41,430 to $49,490 as standard gas-engine variants. Models in the Crew Cab trim level are all exclusively equipped as 4x4. It is only at this point that the top-end SL and Platinum Reserve editions become available, and will set you back $54,200 and $60,080, respectively, for the gas-powered versions. The most expensive model available is the diesel 4x4 Platinum, and it will cost you a whopping $65,410 before adding any packages. These prices exclude tax, registration, licensing, and Nissan's $1,395 destination charge.

2019年日产泰坦XD Models

Three body types, two engine configurations, and five trim levels make up the Titan XD range. The Single Cab supports the S and SV trims; the King Cab offers the S, SV, and Pro-4X; and the Crew Cab gives the choice of S, SV, Pro-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve trims. A 5.6-liter V8 producing 390 hp and 394 lb-ft mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission is standard, with an available 5.0-liter turbodiesel V8 delivering 310 hp and more appropriate 555 lb-ft, paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Features are minimal on the base S trim. 17-inch steel wheels, keyless entry and ignition, a rearview camera, a seven-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system are all that comes standard.

The SV adds front tow hooks, power heated extended tow mirrors, a trailer brake controller, trailer sway control, an advanced drive-assist display, rear door alert, and a front overhead storage console.

The off-road-centric Pro-4X comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, Bilstein off-road shocks, hill start descent, and hill start assist, an electronic locking rear differential, automatic LED headlights, fog lights, factory-applied spray-on bedliner, Nissan navigation, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, as well as SiriusXM.

The upper-tier SL adds 20-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking assist, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, auto-dimming exterior mirrors, a bed-mounted 120-volt AC power outlet, NissanConnect Services, a 12-speaker sound system, a Fender seven-inch touchscreen, and leather-appointed seats.

Equipped with the best the Titan XD has to offer, the Platinum Reserve boats stylized body accents, an intelligent around-view camera, heated rear seats, climate-controlled front seats, and a driver's seat memory system.

Additional Packages

Sixteen different packages are available for the broadly-scoped Titan XD range, with many of these relating to specific derivatives in various trims. Simple upgrades, such as leather-seating, chrome finishes, towing packages, and the seat-delete package form part of this extensive list.

Noteworthy packages, however, include the Utility Package for the Crew Cab SV ($1,145), which comprises a Utili-track Channel System with four tie-down cleats, factory-applied spray-on bedliner, LED under-rail bed and tailgate area lighting, and a bed-mounted 120-volt AC power outlet.

Also for the Crew Cab SV, the Convenience Package ($2,715) adds automatic headlights, power heated extendable tow mirrors, an eight-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear sonar, dual-zone climate control, NissanConnect Mobile Apps, navigation, SiriusXM traffic, and center-console-mounted 120-volt AC and 12-volt DC power outlets.

Other packages worth looking at include the Tow Package, the Pro-4X Convenience Package, and the Pro-4X Utility Package. A Midnight Edition can also be equipped to the SV and SL models of the Crew Cab trim, for black 20-inch alloy wheels, black-trimmed headlights and various other darkened cosmetic enhancements.

What Nissan Titan XD Model Should I Buy?

The model you choose to buy will depend largely on how you plan to use the Titan XD. If you want optimum towing capacity, then the base Single Cab S trim in 4x2 guise with the V8 turbodiesel engine will get you the best results - although the much cheaper gasoline engine offers almost comparable towing capacity for $5,630 less.

For any off-roading applications, the Pro-4X equipped with the same diesel V8 will offer the best performance; however, you will be sacrificing cargo capacity as the King and Crew Cabs come with a shorter bed. If you want a more pleasurable driving experience, but still a modicum of cargo hauling/towing capacity, then the SL or Platinum Reserve will suit you best. The V8 gas engine will provide a more quiet and comfortable ride if you don't mind the further reduced towing capacity, and will max out your budget at $60,080 for the 4X4 Platinum Reserve before any packages are added.

2019年日产泰坦XD vs Nissan Titan

Comparing the Titan to the Titan XD is like comparing apples and pears - similar, but still different. The Titan is classified as a large truck while the XD is the heavy-duty variant, but the differences are not as big as this classification would imply. The Titan only tows about 3,000 lbs less than the so-called heavy-duty XD, and it offers a smoother ride thanks to its smaller dimensions and lower weight. The interiors of both trucks are almost identical, with available features varying only slightly. The Titan lacks the optional turbo diesel engine, however, and the better fuel economy that goes with it, although the gasoline fuel tank is cheaper to refill. With a slightly lower starting price and comparable performance, it's hard to choose the more expensive XD over its smaller sibling, unless you truly need that extra 3,000 lbs of towing capacity. But to be honest, if towing is your primary concern, you'd be better off with a different HD truck altogether.

See Nissan Titan Review

2019年日产泰坦XD vs Ford F-250 Super Duty

With a significantly more powerful 6.7-liter turbo diesel V8 supplying 450 hp and 935 lb-ft, at its disposal, the Ford is in a whole other class compared to the mediocre Titan XD. The overall performance is noticeably better, with this monstrous truck accelerating a lot faster than you'd expect, despite the initial delay before the turbo kicks in. What's more, this true workhorse can tow more than double the Titan's maximum capacity. With comparably comfortable seats, and surprisingly good road manners, as well as an array of optional safety and tech features that makes the Titan look naked in comparison, it's pretty clear which truck comes out on top. And with almost identical price tags, it is obvious which is the better deal. There's a reason Ford trucks continually rank at the top of the sales charts.
