2023 Hyundai Kona Electric Interior and Cargo

Hyundai Kona Electric Interior & Cargo Rating

2023年夏威夷本岛电内部

Design-wise, the Kona Electric looks like many other small Hyundais inside - logically laid out and easy to operate. The dashboard is black, the sloping center console is finished in smooth medium-gray plastic and some aluminum-look trimmings around the air vents lift the ambience slightly. It looks modern enough, is made from good-quality materials, and is screwed together well, but there is nothing really interesting about the design. That's fine, because the interesting things are under its skin, anyway.

The infotainment touchscreen is situated in the middle of the dashboard atop the center console, with some useful shortcut buttons arranged around its periphery. The SE trim has a smaller eight-inch infotainment screen and its fancier SEL and Ultimate siblings get a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen. You will also notice the Ultimate's leather upholstery and auto-dimming mirror, but that's as far as the obvious differences between the trim levels go.

Seating and Interior Space

The Hyundai Kona Electric is officially a five-seater, but if that is to be true in practice, three of those five occupants will need to be compact in stature. There's enough interior space for even taller-than-average adults in front to be comfortable, but the rear seating row is restricted in terms of both leg- and headroom.

Front legroom is decent at 41.5 inches, but the sunroof on higher trims cuts the front headroom from the SE's 39.6 inches to 38 inches on SEL and Limited trims. Front shoulder and hip room is reasonable at 55.5 inches and 53.3 inches, respectively, but it's nonetheless as limited as you'd expect from such a compact car. At least the sunroof doesn't devour any rear headroom, which is already tight at 37.7 inches, but the 33.4 inches of rear legroom is rather small.

The Kona Electric is also not a very wide car, so shoulder room is likewise on the tight side. Access in front is as easy as a small car could offer, but the rear door apertures require some contortion to squeeze between the lower seat cushion and the B pillar. Visibility from the front seats are good, but the high and rising lower window line and bulky roof pillars may make rear-seat passengers feel claustrophobic.

Interior Colors and Materials

The Hyundai Kona Electric interior colors are limited to a choice between black and gray upholstery. Cloth upholstery is used for the Hyundai Kona Electric seats in the SE and SEL variants. The SEL gets a leather-trimmed steering wheel and leather upholstery is a Limited-only treat, again available in black or gray, but this doesn't extend to the door cards or dashboard. For the rest, the different trim levels have identical interiors, apart from the obviously different infotainment screen employed in SEL and Limited models.

2023 Kona Electric Trunk and Cargo Space

The Hyundai Kona Electric trunk space measures 19.2 cu.ft with the rear seats in use, which falls midway between the Chevy Bolt EUV's 16.3 cu.ft. and the Nissan Leaf's 23.6 cu.ft. Folding away the 60/40 split-fold rear seats puts the Kona Electric mid-pack in this group, with 45.8 cu.ft. against the Bolt EUV's 56.9 cu.ft and the Leaf's rather disappointing 30 cu.ft.

Access to the Kona Electric's trunk is not as easy as it could be, however, because the loading sill is quite high and the aperture is quite small as a result of its body shape tapering quite strongly towards the rear. There is plentiful interior storage space, however, with a reasonably sized glove compartment, two lidded receptacles in the center console, a shelf in the lower center console, narrow but useful door bins front and rear, and cupholders front and rear.

2023 Kona Electric Infotainment and Features

Features

Standard equipment levels in the Hyundai Kona Electric interior are quite high, with the standard features list including 17-inch alloy wheels, powered and heated exterior mirrors, eight-way power adjustment for the driver's seat, heated front seats, power windows all round with one-touch up-and-down operation in front, a rearview monitor with moving parking guidelines, automatic climate control, manual tilting and telescoping adjustment for the steering wheel, automatic headlights, cruise control, power door locks with keyless entry and push button start, a rear center armrest, and a 12-volt power outlet in front.

A surprisingly comprehensive driver-assistance suite also comes standard, which includes forward, blind-spot, and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assistance, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic emergency braking for pedestrians. Higher trim grades add features such as wireless charging, a leather-trimmed and/or steering wheel, leather upholstery, a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, full-LED exterior lighting, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, and ventilated front seats. These upgrade items are not available as standalone options, and are fitted depending on the trim level only.

Infotainment

In entry-level SE trim, the infotainment system consists of an eight-inch color touchscreen display with six speakers and SiriusXM capability, Bluetooth, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and two USB outlets in front and one in the rear.

The mid-range SEL trim upgrades the touchscreen to 10.25 inches and adds embedded navigation, but loses the wireless smartphone connectivity and has to make do with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Limited trim builds on the SEL's specifications with a Harman Kardon premium audio upgrade, including an external amplifier and eight speakers, including a subwoofer. No further audio-system upgrades are available.
