2022 Ford F-150 Review: The Light-Duty King Reigns On

Following on the back of a complete remodel, the 2022 Ford F-150 receives only minor updates, though one could see the addition of an all-electric model in the form of the Lightning as a rather large step. However, even the standard lineup gets access to electric assistance with the 430-horsepower PowerBoost hybrid engine. The other options include three gas V6 options and one V8, and when correctly equipped, the F-150 has a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. This capability is one of the reasons the F-Series is so popular in the USA. It's positioned against top rival pickup trucks like theRam 1500and theChevrolet Silverado 1500, both of which have a lot to offer. Will the 2022 F-150 continue its streak as the top-selling truck in the USA for yet another year?

2022 Ford F-150 Changes:What’s The Difference vs The 2021 F-150?

Considering the entire model was redesigned last year, it's not surprising that the changes to the Ford F-150 are minimal. The diesel engine has been discontinued, and there is a new Black Appearance Package for choice trims. The Bed Utility Package is available to the XL, XLT, Tremor, and Lariat, while it is standard on the remaining top-tier trims.

Pros and Cons

  • Amazing powertrains, including a hybrid
  • Bold, modern exterior styling
  • Upscale, high-tech cabin
  • Class-leading towing and payload capacities
  • Long list of features
  • Ram 1500 remains more comfortable
  • Very pricey top-tier models
  • Some features feel gimmicky
  • Real-world fuel economy disappoints

2022 Ford F-150 Handling and Driving Impressions

The Ford-150 is a very hands-on truck, with ample feedback from the steering, which also feels nicely weighted when traveling at higher speeds. However, this is no sports car; it's a heavy truck that feels all of its weight around the bends, even if it has access to ungodly amounts of power. If you try to engage in spirited driving, you better be ready for some serious body roll.

In terms of ride quality, the F-150 is only mediocre. It lacks the plush suspension of a Ram pickup, and bumps are all too easily transmitted into the cabin. Road and wind noise are also constant companions. However, it doesn't want for driveability and capability, with a choice of several drive modes to suit the occasion.

If you opt for the full-hybrid powertrain, you get access to some incredible power as well as the ability to travel on electric power alone. This helps the otherwise loud truck feel more at home on the city streets where it doesn't need to tap into its full potential.

Verdict:Is The 2022 Ford F-150 A Good Truck?

The new Ford F-150 pickup truck is not much different than it was last year, but that's mainly because the automaker doesn't like to mess with perfection. After all, the F-150 has remained the top-selling truck in the states for decades, so Ford clearly knows what consumers want. It is always a tug of war between the leading competitors, but the Ford F-150 seems to be in the lead again when it comes to capability. That's not to say it's perfect, though.

乘坐舒适性和整体驾驶性能to write home about, even on the upper trim levels, and some rivals present a more well-rounded tech offering, too. However, Ford's engines are hard to match, especially the full-hybrid powertrain, and the F-150 has some hard-to-beat towing numbers. It won't be long until one of the competing brands ekes into the lead again, and then it will be Ford's turn to tweak a few things to pull ahead again, but for now, the 2022 F-150 is the one to beat when it comes to hard-working pickups.
