Singer Teases Special 935-Inspired Porsche Restomod

Teaser /3 Comments

The 935 is a hallowed model, but Singer thinks it can be done better.

RenownedPorsche restomod specialist, Singer, has teased something special ahead of a full reveal on June 27. A single teaser image on social media depicts the rear wheel, wheel arch, and massive wing of a very orange car that immediately calls to mind the Porsche 935.

The post is simply captioned: "We have some news. We hope you'll join us here tomorrow, June 27th, to find out more."

With no further details to go on, we can only speculate, but even that is worth a go.

A massively swollen rear wheel arch is visible in the teaser, housing a gold BBS aero-disc style wheel with a chunky center-lock hex nut. Retro? Yes, but there's more to it than that.

That's because the wheel design is reminiscent in both color and design of the original wheels of the 935 - the 1976 version, that is, not the2019 version based on the 911 GT2 RS. This wheel is shod in a particularly chunky-looking Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire, suggesting it will be an absolute performance monster.

Ahead of this, there's a traditional inlet duct reminiscent of the 935's, but we can also see the rear quarter window has been replaced with an air inlet, more akin to what you might see on the new718 Cayman GT4 RS.

The last details are the ones that are most shrouded in a fuzzy blur out of focus in the background: a big wing and a tapered rear end, both signature elements of both 935 generations.

The questions that remain are many, like what will power it, or what the car is based on? Gut instinct says theSinger DLS is the perfect platform, but when paying homage to the 935, Singer will want to do something special... and extreme.

Perhaps, this could be a ground-up machine. Singer previously did the same with the ACS - officially known as the911 All-Terrain Competition Study- as a tribute to the 959 Paris-Dakar racer. That project was quickly shut down, or at least silenced, afterPorsche took exceptionto its name being visible on the back of a product it did not create. There's a difference, after all, between a restomod on an existing car and a new one bearing the name of a company with no involvement.

If Singer goes this route again, maybe it'll remember to leave off the Porsche lettering.

Whatever this mystery 935-inspired icon is, we'll find out about it soon enough.
