The BMW X7 is offered in two configurations for 2022: the xDrive40i and the M50i. While they share the same eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drivetrain, the former gets a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with outputs of 335 hp and 331 lb-ft, while the 4.4-liter V8 in the latter develops 523 hp and 553 lb-ft.
The base model comes outfitted with 21-inch wheels and LED headlights and fog lights. SensaTec faux leather upholsters the interior, and 14-way power front seats come standard with heating functionality. Other comforts include quad-zone climate control, a panoramic moonroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration,HD Radio, SiriusXM, and a ten-speaker sound system. The safety suite comprises pre-collision avoidance technology, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring.
The upper spec gets 22-inch wheels, unique exterior styling, an M Sport suspension, 18-way power multicontour front seats, Vernasca leather upholstery, a head-up display, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, an automated parking assistant, and even more opulent interior trimmings.
It's not unusual for BMW to leave quite a few desirable features off of its most popular vehicles, but they can still be had as part of the list of packages or standalone options. Some noteworthy mentions include the Premium Package ($1,900) for the base model, which adds a head-up display, infotainment gesture control, soft-close doors, and electric rear sunshades. Available on both models, the Executive Package ($1,300 - $3,200) builds on this with heated and cooled cupholders, a panoramic sky lounge LED roof, and a glass shifter and control knobs. The base model can be equipped with the $4,350 M Sport Package with 21-inch M wheels, an M steering wheel, Shadowline roof rails, and sport seats. The Dynamic Handling package is no longer available on the xDrive40i but on the M50i, it costs $3,450 and equips the SUVs with Integral Active Steering and Active Comfort Drive with Road Preview.
