Maserati MC Edition Pays Tribute To A History Of Motorsport

Special Editions /2 Comments

Despite being an ode to its racing history, the changes are merely visual.

TheMaserati Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte Trofeo have been treated to a new special MC Edition trim that celebrates the Italian brand's rich racing history. The timing of the new arrival is perfect considering that the brand will soon be making its officialreturn to the world of motorsport. MC stands for Maserati Corse which, in its application here, highlights the athletic nature and sporting spirit that can be experienced in its products.

The MC Edition will only be available on the three Trofeo cars. Powered by the brand's Ferrari-sourced twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8, this powertrain offers 580 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torquein the flagship Trofeo state. The reason for this exclusivity is accredited to Maserati's desire to focus on an "uncompromising driving pleasure". Despite special mention being paid to the performance of its cars, the edition merely adds a series of cosmetic enhancements to the trio. This is much like what we saw with itsfairly recent F Tributo rangewhich paid homage to Juan Manuel Fangio.

Only two colors are available with the MC Edition; Giallo Corse and Blu Vittoria. Giallo Corse has been mixed with three layers of yellow and is contrasted by a pearlescent blue mica finish which shows itself when it comes in contact with light. These yellow and blue shades represent the colors of Modena which is the hometown of Maserati. The Blu Vittori shade is a more conservative option that has been put together with three layers of a deep blue hue that appear almost black.

Both shades of the MC Edition models are contrasted by a series of piano black trimmings and a set of blue brake calipers. A badge specific to the model is located on the front fender above the triple air vents and B-pillar of each car to signify its exclusivity. For the Levante, a set of 22-inch gloss black wheels complements the detailing, while the sedans are kitted-out with a slightly smaller 21-inch set.

To make the MC Edition more appealing to consumers, the standard specification has been elevated. Additional kit on these cars now includes the electronic sunroof, Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, and the group's Driver Assistance Package.

To match the presence of the exterior, the range has been treated to a plethora of tasteful blue carbon fiber fittings throughout the cabin. The Nero Pienofiore black leather upholstery found on the seats and panels is contrasted with yellow and blue stitching and denim accents while an MC Edition logo has been embellished on the headrests. A dedicated badge has been slapped on the center console as a finishing touch.

The MC Edition models have not yet been confirmed for a US market launch, but we see no reason why these special edition models can't be released here to broaden the appeal of an alreadyspecial grouping of vehicles.
