Kimera Evo37 Is A Love Letter To The Lancia 037

The Cartier Style et Luxe Lawn concours d'elegance at the GoodwoodFestival of Speedshowcases some of the rarest and most beautifully restored cars in the world. Among the highlights at this year's event included several Jaguar E-Types, a Lotus Esprit, and an original 1959 Morris Mini that looked like it just rolled off the production line. There was even a brand-newBugatti Chiron Super Sport, a car so valuable that it was displayed in a giant glass box.

One car that also caught our eye was the stunningKimera Evo37, a reimagined version of one of the greatest and most successful rally cars of all time: theLancia 037. Restomods don't get much better than this.

Kimera showed off some conceptual renders back in May, but they don't do this car's beauty justice once you've seen it in the metal. This was the first time the Kimera Evo37 had ever been shown to the public, but covid restrictions made transporting the car from Italy to the UK more difficult than Kimera anticipated.

Two prototypes of the Kimera Evo37 were shown at the Festival of Speed. One was finished in red, while the other featured a unique "no paint" livery and was put through its paces at the famous Hillclimb. While these prototypes featured preliminary interiors with racing seats and a harness, the final version will be available in full carbon, Alcantara, or leather trim.

The modernized design stays faithful to the original Lancia 037, retaining the four circular headlights, flared fenders, and prominent rear wing. Every bespoke body panel is made of lightweight carbon fiber, while the chassis is based on a Lancia Beta Montecarlo. Under the hood, the reborn Lancia 037 is powered by the same 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine as the original car, uprated to produce 500 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Production of the Evo37 is limited to 37 examples, with each costing €480,000 ($585,000). The first customer deliveries are still on track for September.
