GM wants to lead the way for in-vehicle digital services and subscriptions.
通用汽车(General Motors)是on anaggressive path towards electromobilityand digitalization. It is backing this up with the announcement ofmassive investmentsbeing made into EV development for products that will join itsgrowing electrified lineup. Currently, theChevrolet Silverado EV, Bolt range, and GMC Hummer EV are at the forefront of this offensive.
Joining these models soon will be the Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq, of which the latter will be introducing an impressivenew Ultra Cruise autonomous driving system. As to be expected, digital features will play a big part in the cabin experience of future GM cars too. The group's president of North America, Steve Carlisle, says that its planned systems are going to be expansive.
Speaking at a recent investor conference, Carlisle said, "We have 50-some value-added products and services that we'll be rolling out over the next 36 to 48 months." These will be a series of in-vehicle subscriptions that will run on the group's Ultifi connectivity software, giving it the advantage of over-the-air updates and repairs. An online assistant will also create a holistic ownership experience by supporting essential errands including online shopping.
卡莱尔说that the existing OnStar vehicle safety and security system generates an average of $32 a month per customer. This offering now features an insurance element together with a concierge service. Most of the upcoming digital features will be used to their full effect in the aforementioned range of electrified products.
Where pricing for products is concerned, he explains that programs will be covered by subscriptions which can be paid for on a monthly or annual basis. Lifetime subscriptions will cater to customers who want to save in the long run.
These new digital services are a welcome addition to the GM family after it was reported that the group waskilling off its Marketplace appwhich acted as a handy assistant that made daily living easier. This change affected millions of customers, including owners of theChevrolet Trailblazer. It could book a reservation at your favorite restaurant and prepay for refueling. When it decided to scrap this app, it confirmed that something bigger was on the way. We now have some idea of what that is.
