GM's CEO is preparing an EV attack, with increased production and lofty sales goals.

In January, Ford announced it will double production of theF-150 Lightningin order to meet customer demand. The Blue Oval has been inundated with orders for the electrified pickup, a sign that the electric revolution is well and truly underway. Further proof of this can be found over at General Motors, which is set to increase the production of electric trucks and Cadillac SUVs in 2022 by sixfold.

This is according toAutomotive News, which cites suppliers as the source. The motoring giant's CEO Mary Barra recently told investors thatGM is serious about EV production, with the aim to deliver 400,000 electric vehicles in North America in 2022 and 2023.

Previously, Barra has said she wants General Motors to lead in EVs. Currently, Tesla holds approximately 72% of the US EV market with GM's CEO wanting to change that by the middle of the decade. TheChevrolet Silverado EVand凯迪拉克Lyriqwill certainly do their fair share of the work in order to achieve this lofty goal.

Furthermore, suppliers indicate that General Motors has plans to increase the production of electric trucks and the Cadillac EV to a total of 46,000 vehicles in 2022 - a significant swelling from the previous figure of just 7,000 units.

"We have announced battery cell and assembly capacity investments that will give us more than 1 million units of EV capacity in North America by the end of 2025," said GM in a statement. "We now have teams working to accelerate all of our upcoming EV launches, and our target is to deliver 400,000 EVs in North America over the course of 2022 and 2023."

Interestingly, General Motors also has plans to recommence Bolt production. The compact electric vehicle was mired in controversy last year when a string ofbattery fires prompted a recall。The line has reportedly remained inactive as the carmaker races to replace batteries in the electric car.

Barra noted that reservations for the electric GMC Hummer and its SUV sibling were fast-approaching 59,000 vehicles. That's no match, however, for the battery-powered Chevrolet Silveradowhich reportedly has over 110,000 reservations。西尔维拉多电动汽车的生产将commence next year, said Barra. Suppliers were told to prepare for the production of 21,000 examples of the aforementioned vehicles, up from the previous figure of 3,800.

Demand for the Lyriq, Cadillac's electric luxury crossover, is also climbing. GM's CEO has said customer interest is so strong that the next round of reservations will not go through. Instead, customers can place orders after the Debut Edition launches. GM suppliers were told to prepare for the production of 25,000 vehicles, up from the planned 3,200.

Aside from Ford, electric carmakers such as Lucid and Rivian are also ramping up production, while Lordstown's Endurance has finally entered pre-production. With Tesla also preparing production at its plant in Texas, the electric vehicle race is certainly heating up.
