The Subaru Legacy is an honest and capable competitor in the midsize sedan segment, combining the brand's familiar symmetrical all-wheel-drive system with a choice of two power plants. Lower trims use a 2.5-liter with 182 hp but the engine to get is the 2.4-liter turbo-four equipped to the top two trims; it manages a stronger 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.

With six different trim levels, all Legacy variants come with LED cornering headlamps, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure warning. Moving up to the Premium equips a large 11.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and dual-zone climate control. Available features higher up in the range include a 180-degree front-view monitor, ventilated front seats, heated front/rear seats, and a power moonroof.

Additional Packages

The reason for the increase in price on some trims for the new year is because several options from last year have now been made standard. That's why for 2022, there are no packages available on the base spec or the Sport model. You can, however, add a CD player for $399, an auto-dimming rearview mirror for $245, and auto-dimming side mirrors for $273.

The Premium offers more upgrades in the form of two packages. A $1,000 package adds keyless entry, push-button start, LED foglights, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert while a $2,595 package upgrades the infotainment to the 11.6-inch suite and adds a power moonroof. On the Limited, this infotainment suite comes standard but can be upgraded with a $2,045 package that adds the Harman Kardon sound system, navigation, and other amenities like a power moonroof and heated steering wheel.
