2021 GMC Yukon Review: Splendour For All

by Aiden Eksteen

A contemporary and commanding presence, modern and commodious cabin, and all-new enhanced underpinnings define the fifth-generation GMC Yukon for 2021. It's GMC's flagship family SUV and has been lauded for its strapping and reliable performance and amplitude of room presented throughout its three-row cabin. Playing to those strengths, GMC introduces the latest iteration of the Yukon with new underpinnings that enhance both the on- and off-road experience of the Yukon and expand cabin room. It's still put forward with the two powerful V8 motors and the Duramax turbo-diesel, which means buyers can choose to prioritize power by opting for either the 355- or 420-horsepower V8, or efficiency and utility by opting for the 277-hp, 460 lb-ft of torque turbo-diesel. Whatever the case, the new Yukon SUV is also outfitted with a magnetic ride control system linked to its air-ride suspension for a significantly refined ride quality. GMC has genuinely set the Yukon up to go head to head with the likes of theJeep Wagoneer,Ford Expedition, and theChevrolet Tahoe.

2021 GMC Yukon Changes:What’s The Difference vs The 2020 Yukon?

The new GMC Yukon enters the 2021 model year sporting some fresh exterior styling and a completely new cabin design that makes provision for an optional power-sliding center console or a 40/20/20 split-folding front seat bench. A first for General Motors' full-size SUVs, GMC has also designed the Yukon with a new independent rear suspension kit that lowers the floor for more third-row passenger room. GMC has also made an all-new Active Response 4WD system available.

Pros and Cons

  • Commanding and bold new exterior design
  • Two strapping and dependable V8 engines
  • Polished and cozy drive and ride quality
  • Commodious and featureful three-row cabin
  • Fairly expensive for the value included
  • Predictably poor fuel economy figures
  • Unimpressive official safety rating
  • Questionable reliability track record

Verdict:Is the 2021 GMC Yukon A Good SUV?

If you're in the market for a full-size three-row family SUV, you have more options in the USA right now than ever before. The GMC Yukon has always been one of the top competitors as a premium sport-utility vehicle, but GMC really upped the ante with the fifth-generation model. The price range of the 2021 GMC Yukon SUV line starts at $52,695 for the entry-spec SLE and spans all the way to $73,295 for the top-spec Denali. GMC offers some variety with three powertrain options, each of which offers strapping and refined performance, and with several trim lines, all presenting exceptional levels of comfort and convenience. Every model is pleasant to drive, feels polished on the road, and is impressively adroit off of it. The NHTSA's review of the 2021 GMC Yukon isn't overly impressive, but GMC ensures that the SUV is comprehensively outfitted with advanced active and passive safety features. What really sets the new Yukon apart this year is its modernized, upscale, and expanded interior, which now supplies the most spacious third-row bench in the class. In conclusion, it's refined, comfortable, practical, and a superb 5-door family car for any American family.

What GMC Yukon Model Should I Buy?

You're going to be spending quite a lot of money no matter which Yukon SUV you go for, so the model that we recommend is the one that offers the most value for the money in performance and luxury. Though stuck with the 5.3L V8 unit, the AT4 does still offer powerful performance and is also an adroit off-roader by virtue of its purposed mechanical upgrades, which include a performance front skid plate, high approach angle, red recovery hooks, magnetic ride control system, and two-speed transfer case. GMC also improves the overall comfort and convenience of the AT4 by installing it with a heated steering wheel, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column, heated second-row outboard seats, perforated leather upholstery, a second-row seating power-release, and power 60/40 split-folding third-row seats.
