2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Interior and Cargo

GMC has gone to some effort to make the interior of the Sierra 1500 stand out as a premium product, but there's no denying that base models feel spartan. The Pro features Jet Black vinyl seat trim and an ocean of black plastics. Jet Black cloth seat trim is a no-cost option at this level. Higher up in the range, Jet Black leather seats become available. Denali models are offered with Atmosphere/Brownstone perforated leather seats. Besides the hard and soft-touch black plastic, there's not much to go by in the way of trim options. Higher-spec models do come with open-pore wood trim that lifts the cabin up to a higher level.

GMC offers three bed lengths, starting with the short box, which is 5.8 feet in length with a total cargo capacity of 62.9 cubic feet. The standard box measures 6.6 feet long and has a cargo capacity of 71.7 cubes. Finally, you get the long box, which is eight feet long and offers 89.1 cubic feet of space. The base model gets a standard tailgate, while the rest of the lineup gets a MultiPro tailgate that offers multiple ways of opening. Inside the cabin, you get a sizable glovebox, door pockets, and a center console storage bin with cupholders on models with two individual seats. Trucks with a bench front seat get a foldable center seat that acts like an armrest and also incorporates cupholders. Crew and double cab m models can fold the rear seats flat for even more cargo space.

The GMC Sierra 1500 offers a wide variety of features strewn across a large lineup, which means the base model doesn't get much. Standard on the Pro trim is manual adjustment for the tilting steering column and four-way front seats, single-zone climate control, a 12-volt auxiliary front power outlet, a monochromatic 3.5-inch driver-information display, an HD rearview camera, and remote keyless entry. Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning. SLE is the base trim you can live with and adds niceties such as 17-inch alloy wheels, a digital gauge cluster, dual-zone climate control, keyless start, cruise control, a ten-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, and cloth upholstery. A mid-range trim, such as the Elevation, adds features such as 20-inch alloys, high-capacity suspension, monochromatic exterior treatment, and LED foglights. At the top end of the range, features such as a power passenger seat, a bed-view camera, driver memory, front and rear parking sensors, an HD surround-vision camera system, and heated rear seats. Unfortunately, the excellent Super Cruise feature is an optional extra and only on the Denali Ultimate.

At the bottom of the range, the Sierra 1500 Pro comes fitted with a 3.5-inch monochromatic driver-information display, growing to a 12.3-inch full-color digital gauge cluster on all other trims. Sound is channeled through a six-speaker system (or a two-speaker system in the regular cab). The seven-inch infotainment touchscreen incorporates Bluetooth streaming, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. These options offer basic functionality, but if you're after a truly digital experience, you must climb one up the trim ladder to the SLE trim for the massive 13.4-inch digital display to be unlocked. This system gets all the modern features you're after. It has Google built in and comes with SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless smartphone integration, and voice recognition. The standard six-speaker audio system can be upgraded to a Bose seven-speaker sound system from the Elevation trim and up - and becomes standard on the Denali trim. This becomes a 12-speaker Bose system on the AT4X and Denali Ultimate.
