Chevrolet's new Ford Raptor rival will break cover this fall.

General Motors has some capable trucks in its lineup like the雪佛兰银veradoand GMC Sierra, but it has never built a true Ford F-150 Raptor rival. This could finally change with the new崎岖的雪佛兰Silverado ZR2. Thehardcore ZR2 trimis already available for the Colorado, but this will be the first time the larger Silverado has been given the high-performance treatment. Chevroletteased the Silverado ZR2back in June, and now GM Authority has uncovered more details about GM's new Ford Raptor rival.

Citing sources familiar with the project, GM Authority has learned that the ZR2 will be based on the off-road-focused Silverado LT Trail Boss, so it will have a solid foundation to build on.

This could mean the new ZR2 variant will be called the ZR2 Trail Boss. As standard, the LT Trail Boss is equipped with off-road suspension, hill descent control, and a heavy-duty air filer. Other standard goodies include a two-speed transfer case, skid plates a lift kit that raises the suspension by two inches, and a dual exhaust system.

The LT Trail Boss rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 32-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires, but the ZR2 has been spied with larger 33-inch tires. Since it's based on the Trail Boss, 4WD will be offered as standard.

Building on the LT Trail Boss, the ZR2 is expected to get revised suspension including MultiMatic DSSV dampers that will carry over from the Colorado ZR2. We're also expecting the ZR2 to have an even higher ride height, wider fenders, and increased ground clearance to improve its off-roading capability.

From the teaser video released in June, it sounds like the Silverado ZR2 will be powered by a 6.2-liter V8. In other applications, it generates 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Sadly, this means the ZR2 will be outpowered by the F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX, but we'll have to wait until Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 breaks cover this fall for official confirmation.
