Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise Returns This Summer

A lot has changed in the past year. Only a few short months ago, many outdoor gatherings were still being shuttered due to the pandemic. With a national vaccination drive now in full swing, life is quickly beginning to return to normal. Even wearing masks is no longer a requirement for those who've been vaccinated. And now it's time to get some car shows up and running.

Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise has just announced on its official website and Facebook page the event will return on Saturday, August 21. Officially, it wascanceled last yearbut some participants decided tohold their own unofficial showwithout any of the corporate sponsors, such as Ford. It was sort of a return to the good old days.

But "the world's biggest traffic jam" consisting of muscle cars like theFord Mustang,Chevrolet Camaro和其他美国偶像喜欢轻巡洋舰和numerous sports cars and trucks, is coming back in an official capacity (read: corporate sponsorships) including pre-show events like Roadkill Nights, a drag racing spectacle on Woodward Avenue on August 13 and 14.

The Woodward Dream Cruise was obviously not always the major national event it's become. It actually started out as a small fundraiser to generate some cash for a soccer field in Ferndale, Michigan. Back in 1995, a group of gearhead volunteers figured it'd be a cool idea to revive the show in the spirit of its 1950s and 60s heydays.

That was a golden era for the Motor City, when hot rods and muscle cars ruled the city's streets, specifically Woodward Avenue, America's first highway that stretches nearly 22 miles. The first year the event was revived, around 250,000 people took part and organizers understood immediately just how much this annual car gathering means to people.

Today, it's become one of the country's largest automotive events. Some 40,000 cars take part and around 1.5 million people attend from around the world. The state of Michigan aims to end its statewide mask mandate on July 1. Not only is life finally returning to normal, but car lovers everywhere can now safely gather to celebrate their shared passion.
