BMW Going M And Hydrogen Mad At Goodwood

BMW seems determined to give hydrogen a future, and it's showing off one of its record-setting H2 builds to drum up interest.

BMW has announced its exhibits for the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, and there's a strong focus on two themes: special editions and hydrogen power. BMW will be bringing the all-newM3 CSto the show, taking it up the 1.16-mile hill climb course, while theBMW 3.0 CSLspecial edition will be part of a static display; BMW won't risk such anexpensive and exclusive car.

But it will risk another expensive and exclusive car in the form of the BMW H2R Record Car, a hydrogen-powered monster that set nine world records in 2004 with a 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine borrowed from a BMW 760i of the time. This will race up Lord Marsh's driveway, as will the recently unveiled BMW 5 Series.

But wait, there's more.

The all-electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive will also make an appearance, as will thehulking BMW XM Label Redand the smallest M car currently on sale, the BMW M2. Showgoers will have the opportunity to experience electromobility from the seat of the BMW i5 eDrive40 and the range-topping i5 M60 xDrive. The car will also be on a static display in the First Glance area of the exhibit and in the Stable Yard and Trackside areas.

The Stable Yard is an exhibit dedicated to Bimmers, telling the story of thei Vision Circular concept car宝马计划如何成为“most sustainable manufacturer." Various EVs and hybrids, including the automaker's first electric car, the 1602e, will fill the exhibit. The BMW 525e from the '80s and Munch's firstplug-in hybridsports car, the BMW i8, will be supporting acts.

The Trackside exhibit will feature the aforementioned M2, the M3 Touring, and the BMW M8 Convertible. For those who prefer older Bimmers, the original BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile and the BMW 2002 Turbo will be on display, too, among other classics.

This year is Goodwood's 75th anniversary, andthere will be plenty to see, even if you're not a BMW fan. Lotus will be on-site, there will be anexhibit dedicated to Carroll Shelby, and Porsche will be showing that classic cars canrun beautifully on synthetic fuels.

There's something for everyone this year, so if you're in the region next month, get some tickets. The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from July 13-16, 2023.
