2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45

The exact release date of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 is unknown, but the refreshed 45 S was revealed in October 2023. We expect the model bound for the USA to be shown before the end of 2023, with an on-sale date late this year or possibly early next year.

No price for the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 has been revealed yet, but the 2023 model carries an MSRP of $56,650, so we anticipate the 2024 one will start at somewhere in the $58-$59k range.

Although the new BMW X1 M35i costs less at $49,900, it's reallymore comparable to the GLA 35in terms of performance. In fact, it's not easy finding direct rivals for the GLA 45, as crossovers of this size don't typically pack in as much power and performance. If Audi sold its RS Q3 in this market, it would be the perfect alternative to the GLA 45. Beyond hot crossovers, potential GLA 45 customers may also consider a posh hot hatch like theVolkswagen Golf R.

We haven't seen the exterior of the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 bound for the US yet, but the update for the GLA 45 S shown here will likely still apply, albeit not as an extensive facelift. The 45 S receives a new light signature for the headlights and taillights (with LEDs for the entire lighting system), a revised front apron, and wheel arch extensions that are now body-colored, replacing the black items used before. The AMG crest on the hood is another new feature.

New alloy wheel designs ranging in size from 19 to 20 inches are available for the 45 S, with both matte and gloss finishes available. Local GLAs come with 19-inch alloys, but 20s and 21s are available optionally.

The 2024 GLA 45 is still a sporty subcompact SUV that proudly displays its performance, from the AMG-specific Panamericana grille to the quad tailpipes jutting out at the back.

We don't know what exterior colors for the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 will be available, but the current model sold here has a mostly demure palette of whites, grays, and blacks. Rose Gold Metallic and Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic are two of the more flamboyant shades on the menu, and they come at a price that will likely carry over to 2024. Current models have access to exterior options like a panorama roof and various AMG aesthetic packages, which aren't likely to be done away with for the new model year

The dimensions of the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 won't change much, if at all, since the styling updates are minor. The 2023 variant's specs include a length of 174.6 inches, a 107.4-inch wheelbase, and a 62.5-inch height. Width is 72.8 inches without the mirrors and 79.5 inches when they're included.

According to the latest available figures, the GLA 45 has a curb weight of around 3,847 pounds. We expect 2024 models to weigh more or less the same. The S version that won't make it to the US will likely be heavier.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 is a marvel - its muscular outputs are extraordinary for a small-capacity, four-pot engine. In the USA, we don't get the most powerful S version of the GLA 45 which produces over 421 hp, but even so, the regular 45 we get makes 382 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful subcompact luxury SUVs.

Power is handled by an eight-speed Speedshift dual-clutch automatic transmission and the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. The 0-60 mph sprint takes just 4.4 seconds, so it's easily quicker than the most powerful BMW X1, the M35i , which does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds. The 45's top speed is limited to 155 mph.

To drive, previous iterations of the GLA 45 have been full of energy. Not only is this a seriously quick crossover, but its sharp steering, high grip levels, and assured body control make it fun through the twisties. Using the AMG Dynamic Select system, drivers can switch between more comfortable or overtly sporty driving modes. Torque vectoring at the back, a sport suspension with three-stage damping, and an AMG Sport exhaust system combine to deliver a surprisingly engaging experience.

A new generation of the AMG Performance steering wheel appears with its multitude of controls, including quick access to various performance settings.

For the MBUX infotainment system, Mercedes has introduced what it refers to as an extended range of services, but what these are aren't obvious. The manufacturer also notes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, improved USB charging power, and an extra USB-C port. The 2023 model had dual 10.25-inch digital displays, including a central touchscreen, and these should be retained for 2024.

Elsewhere, new upholstery covers the seats inside the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45. Artico artificial leather and Microcut microfiber can be had in Bahia Brown for the first time. Another new color for the leather is Sage Gray/black, while Red Pepper/black is available. Another new option is open-pore lime wood in brown for various trim elements. Whether all these options become available for the US-spec model is unconfirmed.

Being the priciest GLA 45, we can expect standard features like power front seats, dual-zone climate control, hands-free access, and a 64-color LED ambient lighting system to carry over to the 2024 model.

Cargo space is not a great strength of the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45, with only 9.2 cubic feet behind the second row. This expands to 54.1 cu-ft when the second row is folded.
