2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class SUV

According to the manufacturer, the release date for the Mercedes-Benz GLA is set for later in 2023, although specifics haven't been shared yet. We expect it to arrive in the USA in the second half of the year.

An exact price for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA hasn't been given yet, but we can surmise that the base price of the 2023 model, which starts at $37,500 MSRP for the GLA 250 and $2,000 more for the 250 4Matic version, will be a little higher given the updates and added features. A sub-$40k cost for the base model is still possible.

Rivals to the Merc GLA-Class include the latest BMW X1, which has a base price of $39,100 for 2023, although it comes with all-wheel drive as standard. Audi's contender is the第三季, and like the Bimmer SUV, is AWD-only and costs $39,200 for the current model year.

Mercedes has refreshed the GLA with a new front and rear design that includes a fresh radiator grille that sports characterful vertical louvers and horizontal fins. There are hints of power domes on the hood, and the front bumper is entirely redesigned; the logo on the nose seems to float instead of being supported by the horizontal fins.

With a few nips and tucks to the bodywork, there may be some variances in terms of dimensions for the new Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class SUV, but core measurements are likely to be the same as the 2023 model. This includes a length of 173.6 inches, a width of 79.5 inches including the mirrors, and a height of 63.5 inches - all over a 107.4-inch wheelbase.

Curb weight for the GLA range starts in the region of 3,650 pounds, with AWD variants adding to that. The 2024 GLA-Class will likely weigh in this region, too, although a few added pounds can be expected with the new standard specifications list.

The big news for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class SUV is the electrified mild-hybrid powertrain. This includes a 48-volt starter-generator for easier start-ups and up to 13 hp additionally. It also aids stop-start functions and recuperates energy during braking to feed back into the on-board network and battery. The powertrain is the same 2.0-liter inline-four turbo unit we're familiar with, though, and specs remain at 221 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The Merc GLA's engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and has been able to dispatch the benchmark sprint in around 6.6 seconds with AWD, and 6.8 with FWD. Independent testing has seen quicker times than what the manufacturer claimed, though. The 2024 GLA-Class's 0-60 mph isn't likely to be any different, with any potential improvements likely to be unnoticeable. What we are sure of is that Merc keeps the suspension composed and compliant to ensure the ride is smooth and comfortable.

There aren't any claims made yet about mpg figures for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, but since there aren't any differences in outputs, the mild-hybrid assistance may impact current figures only slightly. The 2023 GLA-Class achieves figures of 24/34/28 mpg with FWD and 23/32/26 mpg with AWD; it'll be interesting to see if the new model can improve on this.

With a 13.5-gallon fuel tank, range should be between 351 and 378 miles per tank, depending on whether you have the 4Matic or not.

Merc has invested loads, as BMW has, on updating the inside of their cars to be even more premium and tech-focused. As BMW has done with its Curved Display, Merc is making bigger screens standard. The 2024 GLA-Class will forego the dual seven-inch displays for a newly standard twin-10.25-inch-screen setup, hosting the driver information cluster and infotainment, respectively. The former gets new display styles, including Classic, Sporty, and Discreet to choose what you want to see, while three modes (Navigation, Assistance, and Services) allow even further customization. There are also ten ambient light colors to choose from.

Newly standard tech includes wireless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there are now more USB-C ports than before - and they're illuminated for convenience. The voice assistant feature has been updated substantially to enhance learning. A final infotainment upgrade comes in the form of the optional Burmester sound system which now features Dolby Atmos for movie-house-level sound.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class gets tweaked, too, with Nappa leather on the steering wheel and more options added for customizing the compact SUV to your liking. This includes Black and Macchiato Beige interior colors for the Progressive equipment line, and Bahia Brown added to the AMG Line. Merc wants buyers in the USA to know that the MB-Tex/Microfiber seat upholstery it uses is made of recycled materials.

All the expected creature comforts remain in place: dual-zone climate control, cruise control, a power liftgate, power front seats with three-position memory, and illuminated entry. No changes are made to the cargo space in the Merc GLA-Class either, and you can still expect to load up to 50.5 cubic feet of cargo in the trunk. The rear seats in the Merc GLA do fold down in a 40/20/40 split, and you can still opt for hands-free access to the space.
