2021 Lincoln Aviator Review: Welcome to Cloud Nine

by Aiden Eksteen

The Europeans have dominated the luxury SUV and crossover segments for a long time, but USA's very own premium car-maker, Lincoln, aims to change that and the 2021 Lincoln Aviator may just have what it takes. As part of the first-generation Aviator line introduced in 2020, the 2021 Aviator is still quite a new vehicle but has, nevertheless, received several minor enhancements and alterations here-and-there to remain an attractive product in the ever-popular classification. Humming beneath its hood is a 400-horsepower, 415 lb-ft of torque 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that cedes power to either a rear- or all-wheel drivetrain. That makes it one of the more powerful SUVs at its price, $51,465, at least at the base level. That's still saying something with the likes of theBMW X5,Porsche Cayenne, andAudi Q7playing the same field.

Verdict:Is the 2021 Lincoln Aviator A Good SUV?

Finally, America has a premium-level SUV that is most certainly a worthy contender and feasible alternative to the European onslaught of fancy 5-door crossovers. The Aviator SUV is a truly sophisticated and good-looking vehicle with a powertrain that gives it the fervor to match its confident presence. Some may prefer the cabin aesthetics of its European competitors, but the Aviator's interior is just as opulent and featureful. It's also one of the more commodious in the segment by virtue of its longer-than-typical wheelbase and that's even with the third-row seats optioned in. Strong performance, a premium look and feel, and a comprehensive list of standard features are complemented by oodles of safety and driver-assistance systems, and a confidence-inspiring reliability rating. The 2021 Lincoln Aviator underwent review by both the NHTSA and the IIHS for a crashworthiness and safety rating and both authorities awarded it top marks. Even if you're not an "it's American or nothing" type of buyer, the Lincoln Aviator remains a good buy as a luxury cruiser.

What Lincoln Aviator Model Should I Buy?

The 2021 Lincoln Aviator SUV's starting price is already pretty high but the base model does come with the strong V6 engine and is admirably outfitted with desirable features. Upper-tier trims only expand on the cosmetic enhancements and ultra-luxurious features, so if that's something that you do want then don't hold back. The Standard, otherwise, comes with niceties such as a comprehensive infotainment system with full smartphone connectivity, ten-way power-adjustable front seats, and even tri-zone automatic climate control. It also comes with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection as standard.
