The powertrain specs of all Lexus GX trims are exactly the same - a naturally aspirated, 4.6-liter V8 is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and sends its power to a permanent AWD system. With a curb weight of over 5,000 pounds and just 301 hp, performance isn't impressive, but the GX's off-road specifications are. There are three trim levels - GX 460, GX 460 Premium, and GX 460 Luxury - and the Black Line Special Edition, based on the Premium trim. Standard equipment is comprehensive, and at the base level, you get automatic LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, multi-mode suspension, a power moonroof, leatherette upholstery, ten-way power front seats, and dual-zone climate control. The infotainment system has a 10.3-inch touchscreen and comes with Bluetooth, SiriusXM, four USB ports, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a nine-speaker audio system.
Standard driver assists include adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Higher up the lineup, features like leather upholstery, heated and ventilated second-row seats, LED foglights, and bigger wheels become standard. Packages such as the Premium and Sport Design packages are reserved for the top trims, with mostly a list of standalone options offered on the base trim, such as heated and ventilated seats or headlight washers.
Each GX in the USA comes quite well-appointed right off the production line, but there are still a number of ways to customize your SUV to your taste. However, the entry-level GX 460 isn't quite so generous in this regard, offering no optional package. The base model can be equipped with three standalone options though, namely heated and ventilated front seats ($640), headlamp washers ($100), or a cargo-area tonneau cover ($150).
